Project Title: DC Summer Bridge Program
Project Description:

Program Overview
The Summer Bridge Program offers a unique opportunity for inner-city youth to engage in an intensive, hands-on learning experience across several core areas: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), The Arts, Writing, Media/Broadcast Journalism, and Sports. This program is designed to close the achievement gap, expose students to diverse career pathways, and provide mentorship and resources that will help them succeed academically and socially.

The Need
a. Achievement Gap and Limited Resources
Students from low-income, urban areas often face significant barriers to educational success. These include underfunded schools, overcrowded classrooms, and a lack of access to enrichment programs. Oftentimes, our students from the inner-city are less likely to be exposed to extracurricular activities, such as STEM clubs, arts programs, or sports, which can drastically hinder their personal development. This discrepancy is particularly problematic as employers increasingly seek workers with a diverse set of skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and teamwork.

b. Social and Emotional Challenges
The summer months can also amplify social challenges, as many students face unstable home environments or lack engaging, enriching activities during the break. For many inner-city youth, summer is not a time of personal growth but of idle time, which can lead to a lack of structure and higher risks of falling behind in their studies, or getting involved in negative behaviors.

The Solution: A Multifaceted Summer Bridge Program
The Summer Bridge Program provides an engaging, structured environment where students will not only catch up on their academic progress but also gain valuable life skills that will prepare them for high school, college, and beyond. Students from St. Augustine Catholic School, from Northwest inner-city DC, will be invited to join the Consortium of Catholic Academies and Archbishop Carroll High School Summer Bridge program. Grades 7th and 8th will be welcomed.

Project Title: Agape After-School and Summer Program "STEM"
Project Description:

The STEM Program is a comprehensive, free after-school and summer enrichment initiative serving K–12 students in Dallas County and Wilcox County. Designed to expand access to high-quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, the program operates September through May from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and for six weeks during the summer, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Since its inception, the program has served over 2,000 students, providing safe, structured, and academically enriching experiences beyond the traditional school day.

The program delivers STEM-focused instruction four days per week, complemented by robotics and coding, hands-on science experiments, engineering challenges, and technology-based learning activities. Students also participate in educational field trips, college campus tours, arts and music enrichment, vocational exploration, and academic assistance. Nutritious snacks are provided during the school year, and breakfast and lunch are served during the summer program, ensuring students’ basic needs are met so they can focus on learning.

A core component of the program is targeted academic intervention. The STEM hub collects and analyzes I-Ready and ACAP assessment data to monitor student progress in math and reading. This data-driven approach enables staff to provide immediate one-on-one and small-group support to students performing below grade level, ensuring measurable learning gains and closing achievement gaps.

The STEM Program actively engages and inspires economically disadvantaged students, English Language Learners, and students of color to pursue STEM pathways. By increasing exposure to advanced learning opportunities and career exploration, the program strengthens academic performance, builds technical skills, and fosters college and career readiness. Ultimately, the initiative not only improves individual student outcomes but also cultivates a generation of innovators equipped to address real-world challenges and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Project Title: Brite Minds Saturday School
Project Description:

Middle school youth in Northwest Indiana experience elevated disciplinary referrals and disengagement, often driven by cultural misunderstanding, limited conflict resolution skill development, and reduced access to structured enrichment opportunities outside of school hours. While schools frequently track detention, suspension, and expulsion data, fewer consistently measure student bonding, belonging, and cross-cultural connection.
A key barrier is the lack of developmentally appropriate CRE instruction delivered in non-school settings where youth conflicts often arise. Brite Minds Peacebuilders addresses this gap by positioning Saturday OST programming as a proactive environment for teaching and practicing solid academic skills and confidence in conflict resolution skills—a necessary aspect for individuals learning and personal growth.
Brite Minds Saturday School will be a hybrid program serving middle school students in grades 4–9. The program integrates structured academic supports in Language Arts, Math and STEM. It includes the use of SEL (social-emotional learning) techniques, conflict resolution education for this volatile age group, leadership development, and responsive service learning/volunteer experiences.
Core CRE components include:
• Non-violent communication skills, peer mediation and collaborative problem-solving
• Conflict de-escalation coupled with SEL (social-emotional learning) techniques
•Regional historical awareness and perspective-taking
• Love of self, community, nation and the world
Evaluation measures will include:
1. Pre- and post-surveys measuring students’ understanding of cultural diversity and shared values
2. Student reflections assessing cultural relevance and fit of CRE strategies
3. Facilitator logs documenting CRE use prior to exclusionary responses
4. Participation and engagement tracking

There are an urgent need for youth and teens to put the guns down in this impoverished, marginalized county of Colquitt, the city of Moultrie, Georgia. Project Title: Young Artists Program (Y.A.P)
Project Description:

We have great participation from performers ages five to eighteen and their parents often help with costumes, sets, props, etc. It provides a creative outlet for the family. Some participants have been training with us for years and some are having their first stage experience. The more seasoned performers are great mentors to the newer actors. These shows attract large audiences of all ages.

In addition to the youth shows we produce, we offer a variety of workshops. We teach the fundamentals of performing on stage, musical theatre and technical theatre training. We offer these workshops at the lowest possible cost and offer full and partial scholarships to students who could not otherwise afford to participate.

In addition to the youth production every year, our young artists also have opportunities to participate in at least one show with an adult cast. This mixed age show has become a favorite for families to participate in together. Our Young Artists also have opportunities to work backstage.

Since the inception of our youth program, we have produced many shows: Charlotte’s Web, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Alice in Wonderland, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, James and the Giant Peach, The Yellow Boat, Shrek The Musical, Beauty & The Beast, The Little Mermaid, A Wrinkle in Time, The Stinky Cheese Man, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr., Frozen Jr., and Matilda Jr, the Musical, The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition, and The Wizard of OZ. Geographical Area Served: Our students have come from various States and from all areas of Texas. There are only a few programs that meet the need for developing independent living skills, especially for people with IDD in Texas. Group homes are limited in numbers, and the development of new Medicaid Title XIX ICF-IDD homes was severely limited several years ago. Some Day Habilitation programs offer the living skills that we teach, but they do not provide the experience of residential living. Most available resources are for people who need many more intensive physical, social and intellectual supports than do our students. As we know it, we are the only program of this kind in North Texas.
Age Group To Be Served: AFIL students are adults, between the ages of eighteen and fifty, and have a medical diagnosis of an intellectual and developmental disability.
