Project Title: Agape After-School and Summer Program "STEM"
Project Description:

The STEM Program is a comprehensive, free after-school and summer enrichment initiative serving K–12 students in Dallas County and Wilcox County. Designed to expand access to high-quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, the program operates September through May from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and for six weeks during the summer, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Since its inception, the program has served over 2,000 students, providing safe, structured, and academically enriching experiences beyond the traditional school day.

The program delivers STEM-focused instruction four days per week, complemented by robotics and coding, hands-on science experiments, engineering challenges, and technology-based learning activities. Students also participate in educational field trips, college campus tours, arts and music enrichment, vocational exploration, and academic assistance. Nutritious snacks are provided during the school year, and breakfast and lunch are served during the summer program, ensuring students’ basic needs are met so they can focus on learning.

A core component of the program is targeted academic intervention. The STEM hub collects and analyzes I-Ready and ACAP assessment data to monitor student progress in math and reading. This data-driven approach enables staff to provide immediate one-on-one and small-group support to students performing below grade level, ensuring measurable learning gains and closing achievement gaps.

The STEM Program actively engages and inspires economically disadvantaged students, English Language Learners, and students of color to pursue STEM pathways. By increasing exposure to advanced learning opportunities and career exploration, the program strengthens academic performance, builds technical skills, and fosters college and career readiness. Ultimately, the initiative not only improves individual student outcomes but also cultivates a generation of innovators equipped to address real-world challenges and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
