Project Title: Empower HER Oberle
Project Description:

The "Empower Her Oberle" program is based on six pillars: Self-Awareness/Confidence, Self-Care/Mental Health, Job Skills/Career Readiness, Financial Literacy, Community Outreach/Service, and Experiences/Trips/Guest Speakers. This type of social-emotional learning (SEL) program teaches young people to identify emotions, understand strengths, and build a growth mindset, all of which contribute to reduced anxiety and improved coping skills. (ggie.berkeley.edu) SEL programs are strongly linked to improved self-awareness, self-management, and a sense of purpose – all protective factors for mental health. Girls aged 13-21 are more likely than boys to report anxiety and self-esteem struggles during adolescence. Self-awareness training helps them better understand emotional triggers, build identity and self-efficacy, and make healthier decisions under stress. " A review of women’s empowerment programs found that interventions aimed at building knowledge, skills, peer support, and emotional awareness led to measurable improvements in mental health outcomes. The review identified four effective components: mental health and emotional awareness training; reading/educational programs that expand knowledge; peer support and community building; and skill-building and engagement opportunities. These interventions support increased confidence, reduced anxiety and depression, greater self-advocacy, and stronger resilience."(mdpi.com)
"Girls with special needs face significant mental health disparities, often experiencing rates of anxiety and depression that are several times higher than their peers without disabilities. Targeted programs focusing on confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy have shown measurable success in reducing these symptoms and improving long-term outcomes."(https://www.bcm.edu/research/research-centers/center-for-research-on-women-with-disabilities). Only 35% of girls with special needs are considered "flourishing" (based on resilience and self-regulation), roughly half the rate of their peers (69%) General confidence in girls has dropped significantly in recent years, but for those with disabilities, this is exacerbated by peer victimization and social isolation (The Annie E. Casey Foundation). Research in positive youth development shows that experiences that promote self-reflection, emotional self-regulation, and self-esteem strengthen resilience and psychological well-being in adolescents. Project Title: Critical Needs Program for Infants and Toddlers
Project Description:

Hope Supply Co.’s Critical Needs Program for Infants and Toddlers addresses diaper insecurity and other essential needs by providing tangible resources. The program focuses on meeting children’s basic needs so that families can pursue stability, employment, and long-term independence.

For infants and toddlers, Hope Supply Co. distributes diapers, wipes, baby hygiene items, infant food, formula, and clothing. These items are essential to maintaining children’s health and preventing infections that can result in emergency room visits or long-term complications. Access to adequate diaper supplies allows caregivers to maintain proper hygiene and supports healthy early childhood development.

Hope Supply Co. distributes resources through a robust partner agency network, ensuring that items reach families through organizations they already trust. In addition to partner distributions, Hope Supply Co. operates The Crystal Charity Ball Hope Diaper Pantry and in 2026 is expanding access through mobile diaper pantry events designed to reach underserved neighborhoods and families who may not qualify for traditional assistance programs. Each year, a designated portion of inventory is allocated specifically for these community-based distributions, allowing the organization to respond flexibly to emerging needs.

In 2025, we distributed 3 million diapers to 60,000 infants and toddlers and distributed $6.7M in resources.

Project Title: Childhood Activities for AZ Children in Foster Care
Project Description:

The Childhood Activities (CA) program of the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF) ensures that children and youth in Arizona foster care can experience the joy and normalcy of childhood. Established in 1984, this flagship program fills critical gaps left by limited state support (at an average of $15 per day across all placements) by funding opportunities that fall outside basic care.
Any child or youth (birth to age 21) who is a ward of the court in Arizona is eligible, including those in kinship placements, licensed foster homes, congregate care, tribal placements, and young adults who voluntarily remain in extended foster care. Funding supports activities such as sports registration and equipment, camps, tutoring, school field trips, bicycles, clothing, graduation expenses, music lessons, and more.
Participation in extracurricular and enrichment activities is proven to increase GPA, reduce dropout and delinquent behavior, and strengthen essential life skills such as persistence, independence, and positive peer relationships. For youth who have experienced trauma and instability, these opportunities foster confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
In 2025, AFFCF funded 5,593 activities for 2,671 children and youth statewide, totaling $1,000,127. Impact is carefully monitored through board review, annual audit, and caregiver surveys. Results show 95% reported improved self-esteem, 94% noted stronger connections with others, and 96% said youth learned a new skill or hobby.
As one youth shared, “Since I have been receiving your help" (funding for tutoring provided directly to the vendor), "I have improved in my reading and math one full grade level.” With support from the Hermanowski Foundation, AFFCF will continue ensuring that Arizona’s foster youth have access to the same enriching opportunities as their peers – opportunities to create joyful experiences and expand their futures.

Project Title: Tools for Tomorrow: Empowering Homeless Children to Reach Their Full Potential
Project Description:

Deep Roots Family Homeless Shelter seeks support to expand its Children’s Enrichment Program for homeless and formerly homeless youth served through our campus in Cecil County, Maryland and our regional outreach in Northern Delaware and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Each year, approximately 50 children, from infancy through age 17, reside at or receive services from Deep Roots.

Children experiencing homelessness face trauma, academic disruption, and limited access to enrichment opportunities that most children have access to. These opportunities are essential for healthy development. While Deep Roots provides stable housing, food, case management, and adult self sufficiency services, funding for children’s enrichment and creative programming remains limited. As a result, many youth lack access to experiences that foster confidence, self expression, and long term success.

This project will provide structured educational and arts based programming designed to equip children with the tools they need to reach their full potential. Grant funds will be used to support transportation for educational field trips to museums and cultural institutions, purchase musical instruments and art supplies, and provide modest stipends for local artists and instructors. Programming will include music, visual arts, photography, and creative writing, based on participant interests.

Deep Roots staff will coordinate and supervise all activities, ensuring consistency, safety, and meaningful engagement. Alumni children who have transitioned into permanent housing will also be invited to participate, strengthening continuity of care and long term impact.

Through this project, children will gain exposure to new learning environments, develop creative skills, and build resilience, self confidence, and hope. By investing in their growth today, Deep Roots seeks to interrupt the cycle of homelessness and help vulnerable youth build brighter, more stable futures.

Born2Ball DC is requesting $10,000 to support our Youth Leadership & Empowerment Initiative serving underserved youth in Washington, DC. This initiative provides structured mentorship, character development, and life-skills programming designed to equip youth with the tools needed for long-term academic and personal success.
The program serves youth ages 8–17 through small-group mentoring sessions, leadership workshops, goal-setting activities, and community engagement projects. Participants receive consistent guidance from trained mentors who reinforce accountability, positive decision-making, effective communication, and conflict resolution skills. Project Title: Closing the Nature Gap in the Coastal Bend
Project Description:

Many communities face systemic barriers to accessing nature and environmental education, particularly low-income, immigrant, and refugee populations. HawkWatch International (HWI) is working to bridge this “Nature Gap”—the inequity in access to outdoor experiences—by providing free and low-cost, immersive learning experiences with our live Raptor Ambassadors. Our Nature Gap programming directly brings conservation education to communities, intentionally reducing significant barriers and ensuring that all individuals, especially those from underserved populations, have access to high-quality STEM education. Up until last year, these programs have exclusively taken place in Utah, where they reach nearly 10,000 learners per year.

Leveraging expenses dedicated to an existing birding festival, HWI tested the idea of bringing Nature Gap programs on the road by bringing its Raptor Ambassadors to the Coastal Bend of Texas. We saw incredible demand for these programs, and in just three days, we served nearly 1,000 learners. Many more could have been served if we had more time.

The requested $5,000 in funding will allow us to expand our reach in the fall of 2026 and engage approximately 2,000 learners, primarily from under-resourced backgrounds. Funds will support educational materials, travel costs, and the care of our Raptor Ambassadors. Partnering with the Hermanowski Foundation will help us meet this growing need, eliminate further barriers to environmental education, and inspire the next generation of conservation leaders.

Project Title: Little Sister Peer to Peer Mentoring
Project Description:

The R.E.A.L Girlz Little Sister Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program is a structured, bi-weekly mentorship initiative designed to foster social-emotional growth, self-confidence, and positive identity development among elementary school girls. Through a near-peer mentoring model, trained high school R.E.A.L Girlz participants serve as “Big Sisters,” leading engaging group sessions for their “Little Sisters” in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.

This program is grounded in the belief that girls thrive when they see positive reflections of themselves in relatable role models. High school mentors receive training in leadership development, communication skills, trauma-informed engagement practices, and age-appropriate facilitation techniques before leading sessions. Mentorship gatherings are held twice per month and focus on key areas including social-emotional learning (SEL), self-love, healthy friendships, emotional regulation, confidence building, and goal setting.

Each session incorporates interactive, play-based learning activities such as team-building games, creative arts projects, guided discussions, journaling exercises, and collaborative problem-solving activities. These structured yet fun experiences allow elementary students to practice empathy, self-expression, and resilience while building meaningful connections with older peers.

The program also benefits the high school mentors by strengthening their leadership capacity, responsibility, public speaking skills, and community engagement. Serving as role models reinforces their own self-worth and accountability while creating a positive cycle of empowerment.

By bridging the gap between elementary and high school students, the R.E.A.L Girlz Little Sister Program cultivates a culture of sisterhood, mentorship, and community uplift. The program supports academic readiness, emotional well-being, and personal growth, ensuring that young girls develop the confidence and tools necessary to navigate challenges and envision a bright future.
