Project Title: Wraparound Supports for Rural Students in Northern Dauphin County
Project Description:

Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania (CISPA) requests $10,000 to support wraparound, school-based services for middle school students at Upper Dauphin Area Middle School in rural Dauphin County.

Upper Dauphin serves a geographically isolated community where families face limited access to healthcare, mental health services, transportation, and other critical resources. Many students experience economic hardship and barriers that directly impact school attendance, academic performance, and emotional well-being.

CISPA places a dedicated Site Coordinator inside the school to deliver Integrated Student Supports tailored to the unique needs of this rural population. Through ongoing data review and collaboration with school staff, the Site Coordinator identifies students at risk of chronic absenteeism, academic decline, or behavioral challenges and implements targeted interventions.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will support small-group mentoring focused on resilience and peer connection, individualized student success planning, attendance intervention and family outreach, and coordination of basic needs such as clothing, hygiene items, and referrals to community services. These supports remove immediate barriers to learning and help students remain engaged during a critical developmental stage.

By stabilizing attendance, strengthening school connection, and addressing nonacademic barriers, CISPA helps rural middle school students stay on track academically and socially. Nationally, over 95% of students receiving intensive supports through Communities In Schools remain in school and advance to the next grade.

This investment will directly benefit youth ages 11–14 and ensure that rural students in Upper Dauphin have consistent, caring adult support and the resources needed to succeed in school and beyond.

Project Title: Creative Connections Fiber Arts Program
Project Description:

Artdillo Studios is a nonprofit arts organization founded in October 2023 in Flint, Michigan with a mission to promote creativity, community, and self-empowerment through the arts. Artdillo Studios began as a grassroots effort to create a welcoming “third space” for artists and Flint residents—a place where people can make art, meet others, and feel a sense of belonging. In the wake of the pandemic, as isolation and loneliness deepened across Flint, our studio became a consistent, low-pressure gathering space where art and social connection coexist.

Artdillo Studios stands out in the nonprofit arts landscape in Michigan because our programs extend beyond a single workshop series. We are known for our weekly open studio hours, where anyone from the public or our programs can drop in to catch up on work, receive instructor guidance, or simply be around other makers. Our affordable, community based, small-group approach has created pockets of communities within our studio that people identify with, consistently show up to, and has quickly spread by word of mouth.

Artdillo Studios is requesting funding to support the Creative Connections Fiber Arts
Program for women, an inclusive initiative offering affordable crochet, textile, and handicraft workshops for women in Flint, Michigan. This program provides hands-on instruction that teaches both artistic and practical skills—empowering women to create, design and alter their own wearables and handicrafts. More than just a class series, the program creates a safe, nurturing environment where women of all ages can build confidence, reduce stress, and connect with others through creativity. Funding will directly support instructor wages, arts materials, and studio operations to ensure accessibility for participants regardless of income.

Requested Amount: 10,000

Project Title: Moving from Surviving To Thriving
Project Description:

Millennia Ministries is requesting $10,000 to help fund our Moving From Surviving To Thriving program, which teaches personal finance, budgeting, credit-building, life skills, social skills, and homeownership planning. This strengthens a family’s capacity to break poverty mindsets through generational wealth-building practices and habits. The skills acquired through this program equip families, both traditional and nontraditional, to restore self-sufficiency and prevent a return to a poverty-level standard of living. This helps prevent their children from inheriting the poverty of their parents, peers, and forefathers.
Program participants typically become our long-term clients and are stabilized during the 3-month sessions with groceries from our onsite food pantry, the MyChoice Millennia Marketplace; diapers and wipes from our onsite diaper bank; and housing advocacy and assistance through our rental assistance, eviction prevention, and flex funding (rent arrears and landlord fees, transit passes, car repairs, relocation expenses, work/education-related materials or documentation fees, emergent utility assistance, including arrears).
The program is shaped by anonymous participant feedback, and its effectiveness and success are measured, anecdotally and empirically, by participant retention rates across its spring and fall 3-month sessions, the post-program implementation of learned practices and concepts, and participants’ ability to achieve social sustainability, as monitored through our follow-up contacts.

Established in 2005, Millennia Ministries is a woman-led, faith-based, non-church 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving a diverse population in Snohomish County, Washington. While Snohomish County is diverse, it is primarily white, which makes dominant white culture prevalent. This leaves many minorities and communities of color disconnected, unseen, unheard, and left out. The organization has delivered groceries to thousands of households and provided housing to hundreds of families through its eviction-prevention, housing-advocacy, and placement programs. Our virtual and classroom-based program offers free generational wealth-building education, including financial literacy, budgeting, trauma-informed soul care, equity-literate wellness sessions, home ownership preparedness, credit repair, and more.

Project Title: Rescue the Children: Providing Safe Housing and Stabilization for Homeless Children in Fresno County
Project Description:

Fresno Rescue Mission respectfully requests $10,000 in support of Rescue the Children: Providing Safe Housing and Stabilization for Homeless Children in Fresno County. Founded in 1949, Fresno Rescue Mission exists to rescue, restore, and empower individuals and families experiencing homelessness and crisis throughout Fresno County.
Rescue the Children is a residential program serving women and their children who are experiencing homelessness and instability. Children benefit from a consistent, secure setting that supports healthy development while their mothers work toward employment readiness and long-term housing solutions.

Project Title: She will graduate, go to college, and succeed in life
Project Description:

Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington’s College Access Program is the cornerstone of the school’s mission to ensure every student graduates prepared for college, career, and life. As a public charter school serving young women in grades 6–12, GLOW educates a population in which 82% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch and more than 70% are first-generation college-bound. GLOW is supported by Beacon Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing equity in education across the Cape Fear region, which also operates Spark Academy, a mixed-income early childhood school designed to expand opportunity from the earliest years.

The College Access Program is intentionally designed to remove the academic, financial, and social barriers that often prevent low-income students from pursuing higher education. Beginning in sixth grade, students receive structured exposure to college and career pathways through campus visits, career exploration events, leadership development, and advisory programming. Support intensifies in high school through individualized college counseling, SAT/ACT preparation, essay workshops, FAFSA completion support, and scholarship guidance. Each senior receives one-on-one advising to navigate applications, financial aid packages, and enrollment decisions.

The program’s impact is measurable and consistent. GLOW’s inaugural class achieved a 93% graduation rate, with 96% enrolling in college and securing more than $3.2 million in merit scholarships. More recently, 100% of seniors applied to and were accepted into college. Since its first graduating class in 2023, seniors have collectively earned over $15 million in merit scholarships.

Complementing traditional college advising, GLOW integrates workforce-aligned pathways such as Culinary Arts and the Sony Digital Media Program, ensuring students graduate with both academic credentials and practical skills. Through sustained guidance, experiential learning, and a strong college-going culture, GLOW’s College Access Program ensures that every student not only gains admission to college but is equipped to persist, graduate, and thrive.

Project Title: La Salle Scholars Institute (LSI): Academic Access & Success Initiative
Project Description:

La Salle High School seeks support for the La Salle Scholars Institute (LSI), a comprehensive academic support and enrichment initiative serving students in grades 9–12 who demonstrate financial need and academic potential. LSI provides structured tutoring, mentoring, college and career readiness programming, leadership development, and family engagement supports to ensure students have the tools necessary to thrive academically and beyond high school.

While La Salle is a Catholic high school, its student body reflects significant socioeconomic diversity. Seventy percent of students come from low- to moderate-income households, and many are first-generation college-bound. LSI is intentionally designed to support students who may not otherwise have access to consistent academic intervention, enrichment programming, and professional mentorship.

Through LSI, students receive individualized academic monitoring, tutoring in advanced coursework, leadership workshops, and structured exposure to post-secondary pathways. The program promotes both academic stability and long-term opportunity by strengthening study skills, confidence, and goal-setting behaviors during the critical high school years.

The requested funds will directly support tutoring stipends, instructional materials, mentoring coordination, and college readiness programming during the 2026–2027 academic year. In the upcoming year, LSI is projected to serve approximately 120 students.

By investing in LSI, the Hermanowski Family Foundation will help ensure that students from under-resourced households have equitable access to the academic tools, mentorship, and enrichment experiences necessary to achieve their full potential.

Project Title: Youth Suicide Prevention Program
Project Description:

Through its comprehensive prevention model, With Hope, the Amber Craig Memorial Foundation builds a strong safety net for youth through education, training, crisis intervention, and postvention support.

Student Presentations (Life-Saving Education):
Age-appropriate (12–18) school assemblies provide evidence-based suicide prevention education on warning signs, risk factors, protective strategies, and help-seeking behaviors. Students learn how to identify risk in themselves or peers, connect with a trusted adult, and take immediate action when concerns arise.

Gatekeeper Training (Building a Safety Net):
Prior to student programming, training is provided to parents, educators, counselors, coaches, and community leaders. Participants learn to recognize suicide warning signs, respond confidently and appropriately, and connect youth to professional mental health resources.

Postvention Support (“Friends With Hope”):
A 12-session suicide bereavement support group offers research-based care for individuals and families impacted by suicide loss, promoting healing, reducing isolation, and strengthening protective coping strategies.

Founded in 2005 following the death of 14-year-old Amber Craig, the organization transformed personal tragedy into a proactive prevention framework grounded in nationally recognized best practices. The model emphasizes stigma reduction, early intervention, trusted adult connections, peer support, and immediate reporting of risk.

Since its founding, With Hope has reached more than 352,430 individuals and serves over 10,000 students annually. Post-program evaluations show measurable impact, with 92% of participants reporting increased ability to recognize suicide risk and greater confidence in seeking help or supporting a peer in distress.
