Project Title: Moving from Surviving To Thriving
Project Description:

Millennia Ministries is requesting $10,000 to help fund our Moving From Surviving To Thriving program, which teaches personal finance, budgeting, credit-building, life skills, social skills, and homeownership planning. This strengthens a family’s capacity to break poverty mindsets through generational wealth-building practices and habits. The skills acquired through this program equip families, both traditional and nontraditional, to restore self-sufficiency and prevent a return to a poverty-level standard of living. This helps prevent their children from inheriting the poverty of their parents, peers, and forefathers.
Program participants typically become our long-term clients and are stabilized during the 3-month sessions with groceries from our onsite food pantry, the MyChoice Millennia Marketplace; diapers and wipes from our onsite diaper bank; and housing advocacy and assistance through our rental assistance, eviction prevention, and flex funding (rent arrears and landlord fees, transit passes, car repairs, relocation expenses, work/education-related materials or documentation fees, emergent utility assistance, including arrears).
The program is shaped by anonymous participant feedback, and its effectiveness and success are measured, anecdotally and empirically, by participant retention rates across its spring and fall 3-month sessions, the post-program implementation of learned practices and concepts, and participants’ ability to achieve social sustainability, as monitored through our follow-up contacts.

Established in 2005, Millennia Ministries is a woman-led, faith-based, non-church 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving a diverse population in Snohomish County, Washington. While Snohomish County is diverse, it is primarily white, which makes dominant white culture prevalent. This leaves many minorities and communities of color disconnected, unseen, unheard, and left out. The organization has delivered groceries to thousands of households and provided housing to hundreds of families through its eviction-prevention, housing-advocacy, and placement programs. Our virtual and classroom-based program offers free generational wealth-building education, including financial literacy, budgeting, trauma-informed soul care, equity-literate wellness sessions, home ownership preparedness, credit repair, and more.
