Project Title: Nourishing Futures
Project Description:

We envision a community where no one goes hungry, and our mission is to provide healthy food that meets the needs of individuals and families with dignity. Our Nourishing Futures program seeks to address the nutritional deficiencies often faced by children in food-insecure households. By prioritizing access to healthy fruits and vegetables, we aim to improve the overall health, and academic performance of children in our community. This project will encompass two main components:
a. School Year Initiative: During the academic year we will provide children nutritious fruits and vegetables that they can take home to supplement their meals. This initiative will involve distributing fresh produce alongside educational materials on nutrition and healthy eating habits. By empowering children and families with the knowledge and resources to make healthier choices, we aim to instill lifelong habits that promote well-being.
b. Summer Enrichment Program: Throughout the summer when access to school meals are limited, we will implement a Summer Enrichment Program focused on ensuring children have consistent access to nutritious food. This program will include weekly distributions of fresh fruits and vegetables tailored to children’s preferences and nutritional needs along with healthy breakfast food options. Additionally, we will organize cooking demonstrations, gardening workshops, and other educational activities to engage children in learning about healthy eating in a fun, interactive way.
Budget and Justification:
• Purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables: $12,500/year
• Educational materials and resources: $2,000/year
• Breakfast expenses: $5,500/year
• Total Budget: $20,000/year
Nourishing Futures represents a vital investment in the health and well-being of children in our community. By providing consistent access to healthy and sustainable fruits and vegetables, we can empower children to thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. With your support, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families facing food insecurity. Thank you for your consideration.

Project Title: Making Sense of Your Worth: Self Worth Empowerment of High School Aged Youth
Project Description:

Fellowship Hi-Crest serves the youth of Highland Crest neighborhood in Topeka, Kansas through several youth initiatives including financial literacy and investment education, digital and technology literacy, and self-esteem development. Fellowship Crest is seeking funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to fund a powerful mental health and wellbeing “Making Sense of Your Worth” group at a local high school. Making Sense of Your Worth is an eight-week course that is designed to help youth experience positive Self-Worth and secure attachment in relationships. Self-Worth is a strong foundational component of who we are and how we experience the world. Our self-worth can have huge implications in our personal lives. Without awareness, our self-worth affects our behaviors, our relationships, our boundaries, our aspirations, our ability to lead, and, for some of us, our healing.

Youth will participate in group sessions designed to create understanding of how events in their lives have contributed to their current level of self-worth. These sessions will focus on developing an understanding of the impact of social pressures that lead youth to question “I am not good enough,” “I don’t belong,” and “I have to be perfect.” These sessions will also help each youth to build a positive self-worth to protect against negative influences in the future. Funding from this grant will cover the cost of the facilitator and the cost of program materials.

Project Description:

TACC’s affordable Mental Health Counseling program continues to make a huge impact by providing essential mental health services, as well as support and training to strengthen families who are low-income, uninsured/under-insured, and otherwise low-resourced. TACC’s counselors work with clients from all socio-economic backgrounds to address life transitions, anxiety, grief, addiction, family relationships and other areas that impact mental wellbeing, daily living, and productive contributions to family and community. TACC has highly trained counselors working directly with children, youth, and adults, individuals, couples, groups, and families to address issues unique to them and their families and place them on a track to healing. TACC helps clients become healthy, whole, and contributing members of the community, by helping individuals develop coping and life skills to get back on their feet and re-engaged with their lives. TACC partners with peer organizations in Atlanta as a vehicle to extend services deepening the impact throughout the city. TACC has recently began partnering with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, offering mental health services to both children and women.

Counseling services and programming are crucial in supporting individuals and their families struggling in all areas of life. Many children and their families within Metro Atlanta are overlooked and go without counseling services of the mental health recovery system. TACC’s professionally trained/licensed counselors are a critical community resource, and services are trauma-informed. Clients and therapists work together to develop a specific and individualized course of treatment for each family. Our mental health services are available to anyone in need based on ability to pay. This is the core tenet of TACC’s mission. TACC eliminates cost barriers by providing therapeutic services on a sliding scale. Project Title: All Access Pass Sack Lunches, Meals, Free Snacks and Food Literacy
Project Description:

Our "Access Pass” allows youth whose families qualify financially or fall under the ALICE threshold — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed — earning more than the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford the basics where they live; to register for special programs for free; access a free meal after school and, more recently, receive a sack lunch for school. Offering our “All Access Pass” Meal program is an effort to further support the youth we serve and help ensure their academic and social success, and physical and emotional wellbeing. We also offer free snacks during after school drop-in programs. Studies show that out of school snacks and meals contribute to the healthy growth and development of youth, particularly youth from low-income households. Snacks and meals are prepared by youth apprentices of our onsite social enterprise, The Moon Café, teaching the apprentices, 80% of whom are from LMI households themselves, the power of helping one another and instilling our value, “All of Us or None of Us.”

During the spring and summer months we offer a Gardening Club where youth learn to grow and try new foods, building their knowledge of and enthusiasm for fresh fruits and vegetables. Our Food Literacy efforts focus on emphasizing what nutrition looks like (carbs, fats, protein, fiber, micronutrients, etc) and how to add foods to our diets and things to our daily lives that help our micro biome and bodies as a whole, and we will address the mind-gut connection. We host one cooking class every other week, such as making miso soup, noodle making, and planting micro greens. The program includes planned field trips to the Prescott Farmers Market, local farm and gardens, and Sustainability Center at Prescott College, as well as cooking meals there.

Our services are critical for our community. Baltimore, Maryland area residents are negatively affected by socioeconomic issues, including poverty, high unemployment and underemployment, low sense of community, and low educational attainment. These factors can be crippling and negatively impact the community as a whole. Thus, making Baltimore area residents more susceptible to adverse behaviors and experiences. Several individuals drop out of school, discontinue academic pursuits; and even become homeless and/or involved in criminal activity. This climate calls for a paradigm shift in what is being taught and modeled and what support systems are available to individuals.
