Project Title: Making Sense of Your Worth: Self Worth Empowerment of High School Aged Youth
Project Description:
Fellowship Hi-Crest serves the youth of Highland Crest neighborhood in Topeka, Kansas through several youth initiatives including financial literacy and investment education, digital and technology literacy, and self-esteem development. Fellowship Crest is seeking funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to fund a powerful mental health and wellbeing “Making Sense of Your Worth” group at a local high school. Making Sense of Your Worth is an eight-week course that is designed to help youth experience positive Self-Worth and secure attachment in relationships. Self-Worth is a strong foundational component of who we are and how we experience the world. Our self-worth can have huge implications in our personal lives. Without awareness, our self-worth affects our behaviors, our relationships, our boundaries, our aspirations, our ability to lead, and, for some of us, our healing.
Youth will participate in group sessions designed to create understanding of how events in their lives have contributed to their current level of self-worth. These sessions will focus on developing an understanding of the impact of social pressures that lead youth to question “I am not good enough,” “I don’t belong,” and “I have to be perfect.” These sessions will also help each youth to build a positive self-worth to protect against negative influences in the future. Funding from this grant will cover the cost of the facilitator and the cost of program materials.
