Project Title: Thrive Through Program
Project Description:
UFCS envisions a future where every underserved learner unleashes their potential through targeted upskilling, enabling them to pursue rewarding careers that support their families. UFCS is committed by dismantling barriers, promoting social and economic mobility, and empowering learners to become catalysts for positive change in their communities. UFCS requests funding from the Hermanowski Foundation to expand and deepen its “To and Through” Program. The intent and indication of UFCS’s To and Through Program for underserved learners between 16 to 21, is to provide holistic high quality college/career-ready coaching, advising, and social support with a case management approach through: 1) Academic Advising with personalized guidance for course selection, understanding college prerequisites, and maintaining a strong academic record; 2) College Application Assistance with support in the college application process, including essay writing, application completion, and navigating financial aid; 3) Career Exploration and Planning with activities and counseling for career interest identification and understanding educational paths for various professions; 4) Standardized Test Preparation with resources and coaching for key exams like the SAT and ACT; 5) Mentorship by connecting students with experienced mentors for advice and motivation; 6) Soft Skill Workshops with seminars on essential skills like time management, communication, and teamwork; 7) Financial Literacy Education by teaching students essential financial management skills, including understanding student loans and budgeting; and 8) Emotional and Social Support with counseling services to help students manage stress and build resilience. Funding from the Hermanowski Foundation will allow UFCS to support its mentors with materials and costs necessary to execute the “To and Through Program.” With this program, UFCS ’s reputable expertise, large footprint, and targeted learner outcome tracking has fostered a high level of insight into historically underserved learners’ journeys as they navigate to and through college, and into the workforce.
