Imagine six-year-old Myla returning to school after chemotherapy. She has no hair. She feels different. Her classmates want to help but don’t know what to say. Her teacher wants to support her but isn’t sure what she needs. Her friends are afraid of saying the wrong thing. Her family is exhausted. Even the adults around her may struggle to find the right words.

What if they all had a shared language for childhood cancer and knew how to actually help?

Stories That Heal was created to do just that.

Developed by Myla’s Beleaf in partnership with Giz Kids Foundation, Stories That Heal uses puppetry, storytelling, social-emotional learning, and age-appropriate education to help children, families, teachers, and communities navigate the emotional and social realities of childhood cancer. Through stories featuring Myla and her beloved dog Hulk, children explore treatment, friendship, fear, grief, nutrition, resilience, and the many emotions that accompany serious illness.

But this is more than cancer awareness. It is a how-to for compassion. Children learn what to say when a friend has cancer, how to include a classmate who has missed school, and how to respond when someone is scared, sad, or grieving. Teachers and families gain practical language and tools for meaningful conversations. Communities learn how to support—not simply feel sorry for—a child and family facing cancer.

Stories That Heal will be delivered through puppet-based videos, live performances, and supporting resources for children ages 4–12, families, educators, and care professionals.

Myla’s Beleaf has spent years helping families with the financial burden of childhood cancer. Stories That Heal addresses another burden: the isolation and uncertainty children experience when cancer changes their world.

Our goal is simple: help children feel understood, help adults know what to say and do, and help communities become better equipped to walk alongside families facing childhood cancer.

Knowing a child has cancer is awareness. Knowing how to show up for that child is support.

EneRay Healing Foundation’s Legit Angel Tribe is a year-round social and wellness program created for autistic and neurodivergent youth who often have limited opportunities to build friendships, practice independence, and experience genuine belonging within their community.

Many of the youth we serve struggle to find social environments where they can connect with others without the pressure to mask, perform, or conform to neurotypical expectations. Legit Angel Tribe provides a consistent, supportive space where participants can show up as themselves while developing the confidence and skills needed to navigate relationships and everyday life.

During weekly 90-minute gatherings, participants engage in structured social experiences, collaborative activities, creative exploration, mindfulness and emotional-regulation practices, and practical life-skill development. Activities strengthen communication, self-advocacy, emotional awareness, decision-making, cooperation, confidence, and increasing independence while supporting the development of authentic relationships.

Beyond weekly gatherings, Legit Angel Tribe creates supported opportunities for participants to engage in appropriate community events and wellness experiences already taking place at EneRay. This allows participants to practice social participation and connection within a broader community while remaining in a familiar, supportive environment.

The program serves up to 12–15 participants and provides consistency throughout the year so relationships and skills have time to develop. Rather than approaching neurodivergence as something to be corrected, Legit Angel Tribe builds upon each participant’s strengths while providing appropriate opportunities for growth.

A $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Family Foundation would help make a full year of this programming accessible to autistic and neurodivergent youth in Northeast Florida, strengthening confidence, independence, connection, and a lasting sense of belonging.

Mosaic Advocacy’s peer mentor orogram supports parents whose children have been removed from their care and placed in foster care, with the ultimate goal of helping children safely return home and remain safely with their families.

The program pairs parents navigating an active Child Protective Services (CPS) case with trained mentors (parents who have personally been impacted by CPS and successfully reunified with their own children). Through consistent, one-on-one support, mentors help parents navigate court requirements, build healthy parenting skills, access housing and employment resources, connect to mental health services and develop the stability needed to safely care for their children.

While our services are delivered to parents, children are at the center of everything we do. Family separation can be deeply disruptive to a child’s emotional well-being, relationships and sense of stability. When reunification is safe and appropriate, helping parents overcome barriers to reunification can reduce the amount of time children spend in foster care and increase their opportunity to grow up in a stable, nurturing, biological family environment.

Our program also focuses on what happens after reunification. Mosaic provides two years of post-reunification support to help families maintain stability, strengthen parent-child relationships and reduce the likelihood of children re-entering foster care.

The program creates a powerful cycle of change: parents who successfully reunify can become mentors themselves, using their living experience to help other families. This provides meaningful employment and economic mobility for parents while creating a growing network of experienced community members committed to keeping children safely connected to their families.

By investing in parents, Mosaic Advocacy invests directly in children, helping more children return home safely, spend less time in foster care and grow up in stronger, healthier families.

Our programming is organized into two core areas: Community Education and Community-Wide Programming.

Our Community Education Program focuses on closing academic gaps and accelerating student achievement. We provide high-quality tutoring services to all students in need, regardless of the school they attend. Tutoring is offered four days per week, with sessions tailored to accommodate both enrolled students and those from the broader community. Our model prioritizes students who are performing below grade level while maintaining an inclusive approach that reduces stigma and supports diverse learning needs. Instruction is delivered through a combination of one-on-one and small-group sessions, allowing for individualized attention and targeted skill development. Our curriculum emphasizes English, reading, and mathematics, with a focus on foundational skills, grade-level standards, remediation, and acceleration. By integrating teacher-led instruction with technology-based learning tools, we enhance vocabulary development, listening skills, social-emotional growth, and overall academic performance. Year-round programming, including expanded summer offerings, ensures continuity of learning and prevents regression. What distinguishes our program is our holistic approach. Our Community-Wide Programming extends our impact by addressing critical family and community needs. With homelessness and economic instability on the rise, we serve 5–10 new families weekly, providing essential resources such as food, clothing, shelter assistance, tutoring, and counseling. Our Backyard Wednesdays initiative serves as a central hub for engagement, offering hot meals, groceries, and take-home food supplies for families in need. Transportation support, including gas cards, ensures accessibility for participants. We provide a comprehensive range of supportive services, including individual and family counseling, parenting education, financial literacy training, and adult literacy programs. Students receive educational materials, tutoring supplies, and monthly enrichment kits designed to reinforce learning at home. Our on-site food pantry operates daily to meet immediate needs for families experiencing hardship.
