Project Title: Gearing kids up for success in South Louisiana
Project Description:

NorthShore Robotics is a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to STEM opportunities for low-income and low-access families. We help students ages 5–15 start and participate in competitive robotics teams, giving future engineers hands-on experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and technology.

Our mission is to build a thriving STEM community across Louisiana by ensuring that every child—regardless of background—has the opportunity to explore engineering and innovation. While this goal can be challenging as many communities face declining access to STEM resources, we believe that with strong partnerships and community support, we can change that trajectory.

We are seeking support from your foundation to sponsor two of our robotics teams this year. These teams will be located in Washington Parish, Louisiana, where access to STEM enrichment programs is limited. Our teams are completely free for participating families, meet weekly throughout the year, and compete in regional and state robotics competitions.

This year we expect to support up to 40 teams across the region, and your support would directly enable two teams of students to gain access to transformative STEM experiences that inspire confidence, creativity, and future career pathways in technology and engineering.

Project Title: Alive Teen Center Oswego Youth Belonging & Prevention Initiative
Project Description:

Alive Teen Centers is seeking startup funding to establish a new Alive Teen Center Satellite in Oswego, Illinois. Alive Centers are free, teen-only drop-in spaces designed to support youth mental health, promote personal connections, and leadership development. The center will serve students in grades 5–12. Through Alive’s unique Teen-Led, Teen-Driven™ model, older teens mentor younger peers by offering tutoring, leading activities, and creating original programs that foster leadership and responsibility.

Daily drop-in hours provide a structured, supervised environment where young people can gather after school and during summer months to build healthy relationships, participate in enrichment activities, and develop positive peer connections.

Startup funds will support the preparation and launch of the Oswego location so it can safely and effectively serve local youth. Funding will be used for initial facility setup and furnishings, including flexible seating, activity areas, technology, and equipment needed to create a welcoming teen-centered space. Funds will also support program materials for leadership development, STEM exploration, creative arts, and peer mentorship programming.

Additional startup resources will help establish the center’s operational foundation, including staff training, volunteer recruitment, safety protocols, and community outreach to ensure youth and families are aware of and able to access the center.

Alive Teen Centers have successfully operated in three Illinois communities for over a decade. Startup funding will allow Alive to expand and launch the Oswego center. Our priorities are to strengthen preventative, community-based youth mental health support.

Project Title: Technology Infrastructure Improvements for Youth Educational Enrichment
Project Description:

The Children’s Home of Kingston (CHK) serves an all-male population, ages 10-21 who are experiencing difficulties in the community. We are located on 4+ acres in the small city of Kingston, New York. CHK is a therapeutic community for boys who have been shaped by trauma. Each arrives with a complex and most often heartbreaking history. Our boys arrive with deep emotional wounds, developmental delays, learning disabilities, and mental health diagnoses. Traditional mental health and/or developmental models often are unable to meet their needs. When school districts, social services, or courts have been unsuccessful with meeting the youth’s needs; they are then referred to special education schools like CHK.
CHK seeks funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to help establish a modern 10 station computer laboratory. The lab would be equipped with 10 curved display desktop units with wired keyboards and mouse, 10 chairs: 8 ft. conference tables, 1 minicomputer and workstation laptop, a camera, educational software, streaming mixer etc.

This computer lab will address a critical infrastructure gap: outdated and insufficient technology across our academic and residential programs. As a licensed residential treatment center and special education provider, CHK must deliver instruction and care that is both trauma-informed and responsive to diverse learning needs

Our current devices are incompatible with modern educational platforms. This limits our educators’ ability to provide effective, individualized instruction and prevents our students from gaining digital skills that are essential for educational success and future employment. It also creates learning environments that lack engagement, flexibility, and accessibility for students with unique emotional and special education needs.

With the help of the Hermanowski Family Foundation, CHK can provide a modern, supportive and engaging learning environment that will give them the tools necessary for a more productive future.

Today’s Date: 3-5-2026
Requested Amount: $10,000

Project Title: Daytime Performances 2026-27
Project Description:

The Warner Theatre’s Daytime Performances program brings live, professional theatre into school curricula, providing high-quality, curriculum-connected arts experiences that many students in Northwest Connecticut might not otherwise access. Since 2009, the program has served over 42,000 students across 57 districts, offering performances accompanied by educator guides, classroom activities, and post-show discussions that foster critical thinking, creativity, and empathy. Past productions have included Pinkalicious, Once Upon a Time: Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk, and We Can Do It: A Celebration of Women’s History Month.

The $10,000 requested will support the 2026-27 season, funding artist fees, educational materials, staff, and production costs to ensure equitable access for schools with limited arts resources. Specific titles are expected to be confirmed by May 2026 to begin outreach to schools, ensuring a smooth scheduling process. The season is projected to serve at least 1,500 students from 15 districts (including high-need urban schools, rural towns, and private/religious schools) through reduced ticket costs ($12 per student, one free chaperone per 10 students) and additional subsidies or transportation support.

Curriculum-aligned performances paired with educator guides, classroom activities, and post-show discussions actively engage students in developing critical thinking, creativity, and empathy. The program also supports social-emotional growth, fostering collaboration, emotional expression, and a sense of school belonging. Offering performances at the largest performing-arts center in Northwest Connecticut, the only local venue with school-day programming, ensures students can experience professional theatre without traveling 60-90 miles. Program evaluation includes attendance tracking, teacher feedback, student reflections, and an annual third-party report, allowing for continuous improvement and measurable impact.

Today’s Date: 03/05/2026
Requested Amount: 10,000

Project Title: Youth C.A.R.E. Mental Wellness Initiative
Project Description:

South Florida Family C.A.R.E. Alliance respectfully requests $10,000 to sustain and grow our year-round Youth C.A.R.E. Mental Wellness Initiative, serving children and teens (ages 5–17) experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

Research consistently shows that children experiencing housing instability face significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, trauma-related stress, behavioral challenges, and developmental delays. The instability of frequent moves, overcrowded living conditions, food insecurity, and sudden family disruption creates toxic stress that impacts brain development, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. These effects directly impair academic performance, school attendance, concentration, peer relationships, and long-term educational attainment. Without intervention, the trauma of homelessness can create long-term educational and health disparities.

Our Pathway to Prosperity stabilization program ensures families achieve housing and financial stability within 90–120 days. However, stabilization alone is not enough.

Youth C.A.R.E. addresses the emotional and psychological toll of homelessness through:
• Individual and group counseling led by licensed clinicians
• Trauma-informed therapeutic support focused on emotional regulation
• Mindfulness and coping-skills development
• Caregiver workshops to reinforce stability at home
• Ongoing assessment and evaluation under our C.A.R.E. framework (Counseling, Assessment, Referrals, Evaluation)

Funding will directly support clinician time, therapeutic materials, assessment tools, and caregiver engagement.

By addressing children’s mental health alongside housing stabilization, we ensure youth do not simply exit homelessness—but regain the emotional foundation necessary to succeed in school and thrive long term.

Project Title: Project Title: Family Empowerment Nights: Strengthening Families and Student Success
Project Description:

The Parent Teacher Collaborative (TPTC) works to strengthen relationships between families and schools so that students have the support they need to succeed academically and socially. Many families want to be engaged in their child’s education but face barriers such as demanding work schedules, limited information about school systems, and uncertainty about how to support learning at home.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation would support a series of monthly Family Empowerment Nights serving students and caregivers at Title I schools in Houston, Texas. These interactive events bring families, educators, and community partners together to build stronger connections and provide practical tools that families can use to support their children’s learning and development.

Each Family Empowerment Night includes hands-on learning activities for students and caregivers, workshops that help parents understand how to support academic success, and opportunities for families to connect with school staff and trusted community organizations. Topics may include literacy and math activities families can do at home, social-emotional development, navigating school systems, and preparing students for future educational opportunities.

These events also help schools identify and develop parent leaders who can support ongoing engagement efforts and strengthen communication between families and educators.
By creating welcoming and structured opportunities for families to learn together, Family Empowerment Nights increase family participation in school activities, strengthen school-community relationships, and help ensure that students have the encouragement and support they need both in school and at home.

Through this program, TPTC helps schools build a culture where families feel valued, informed, and empowered to play an active role in their children’s education.

Project Title: Science Enrichment Programs
Project Description:

At Mission Science Workshop (MSW), we provide hands-on STEM experiences that inspire children to become lifelong learners, explorers, builders, and creators. Each year, we partner with more than 100 public schools and community organizations across the Bay Area to offer field trips, after-school and summer programs, mobile workshops, and free weekly community drop-in days. MSW reaches nearly 20,000 students and their families annually and operates three community workshop spaces in San Francisco’s Mission, Excelsior, and Bayview districts.

Despite San Francisco’s leadership in science and technology, many public schools lack the resources to fully equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to pursue STEM careers. While other enrichment programs exist, MSW is uniquely committed to serving underserved youth and remaining rooted in the communities we support. For over 34 years, we have partnered with Title I public schools, where at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Equity is central to our mission, and we prioritize serving youth historically underrepresented in STEM, including girls, Black and Latino students, English learners, and recent immigrants. To remove barriers, we absorb program costs and offer all of our programs free of charge.

Our STEM programs spark curiosity and encourage students to ask questions, experiment, and explore. Youth learn by doing: building wobble robots, launching steam rockets, woodworking, tinkering with solar-powered radios, and interacting with live animals. Surveys show that this hands-on approach helps students better understand scientific concepts while discovering their interests. Our workshop spaces are filled with interactive exhibits, DIY tinkering stations, live animals, and collections of scientific tools and artifacts that invite exploration beyond the classroom.

However, rising costs and declining public school funding threaten programs like ours. We are seeking support for our field trip program, which serves 20,000 Bay Area students each year, primarily from Title I schools. Funding ensures these programs remain free, expands access to STEM learning, and helps inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
