Project Title: Project Title: Family Empowerment Nights: Strengthening Families and Student Success
Project Description:
The Parent Teacher Collaborative (TPTC) works to strengthen relationships between families and schools so that students have the support they need to succeed academically and socially. Many families want to be engaged in their child’s education but face barriers such as demanding work schedules, limited information about school systems, and uncertainty about how to support learning at home.
Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation would support a series of monthly Family Empowerment Nights serving students and caregivers at Title I schools in Houston, Texas. These interactive events bring families, educators, and community partners together to build stronger connections and provide practical tools that families can use to support their children’s learning and development.
Each Family Empowerment Night includes hands-on learning activities for students and caregivers, workshops that help parents understand how to support academic success, and opportunities for families to connect with school staff and trusted community organizations. Topics may include literacy and math activities families can do at home, social-emotional development, navigating school systems, and preparing students for future educational opportunities.
These events also help schools identify and develop parent leaders who can support ongoing engagement efforts and strengthen communication between families and educators.
By creating welcoming and structured opportunities for families to learn together, Family Empowerment Nights increase family participation in school activities, strengthen school-community relationships, and help ensure that students have the encouragement and support they need both in school and at home.
Through this program, TPTC helps schools build a culture where families feel valued, informed, and empowered to play an active role in their children’s education.
