Project Title: One Nation, Many Roots: Sharing our Stories, Celebrating our Commonalities, Respecting our Varying Modes of Artistic Expression
Project Description:

Global Education Center is partnering with Vanderbilt University Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and with Whites Creek High School, our city’s lowest performing high school, to introduce students to the connections between the many cultural arts in our country with an emphasis on Music and Dance. While we have designed the project to be a three-year commitment, working with freshman and sophomores who can be involved over the entire span of the project, we are requesting funding that would straddle the first and second academic year, which will be January 2027 – December 2027, if we understand guidelines correctly. The overall goal is to highlight the commonalities we all share, including the stories, struggles, and successes we have in common, as a way to bridge divides, understand our connections, and build respect for the different ways in which we express our stories. We will do this through professional development for teachers, year-long residencies in music and dance, quarterly presentations by special guest artists, and documentation by students in the school’s media classes.
