Project Title: Youth C.A.R.E. Mental Wellness Initiative
Project Description:

South Florida Family C.A.R.E. Alliance respectfully requests $10,000 to sustain and grow our year-round Youth C.A.R.E. Mental Wellness Initiative, serving children and teens (ages 5–17) experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

Research consistently shows that children experiencing housing instability face significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, trauma-related stress, behavioral challenges, and developmental delays. The instability of frequent moves, overcrowded living conditions, food insecurity, and sudden family disruption creates toxic stress that impacts brain development, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. These effects directly impair academic performance, school attendance, concentration, peer relationships, and long-term educational attainment. Without intervention, the trauma of homelessness can create long-term educational and health disparities.

Our Pathway to Prosperity stabilization program ensures families achieve housing and financial stability within 90–120 days. However, stabilization alone is not enough.

Youth C.A.R.E. addresses the emotional and psychological toll of homelessness through:
• Individual and group counseling led by licensed clinicians
• Trauma-informed therapeutic support focused on emotional regulation
• Mindfulness and coping-skills development
• Caregiver workshops to reinforce stability at home
• Ongoing assessment and evaluation under our C.A.R.E. framework (Counseling, Assessment, Referrals, Evaluation)

Funding will directly support clinician time, therapeutic materials, assessment tools, and caregiver engagement.

By addressing children’s mental health alongside housing stabilization, we ensure youth do not simply exit homelessness—but regain the emotional foundation necessary to succeed in school and thrive long term.
