Project Title: Student Substance Recovery Program
Project Description:

The Student Substance Recovery Program, organized by the National Education Foundation, focuses on reducing vaping and alcohol use among students while helping those who are caught make better choices moving forward. Many schools currently rely only on punishment when students are caught with substances, which does not always address the reasons behind the behavior.

This program partners with schools to install vape detection systems in areas where vaping commonly occurs, allowing administrators to identify incidents quickly. When students are caught, they participate in a short intervention program that includes education about nicotine and alcohol risks, discussions about peer pressure, and meetings with a school counselor if needed.

The goal is to reduce substance use in schools while giving students the tools and support they need to make healthier decisions.

Project Title: Hermanowski Foundation Sensory Room
Project Description:

The Victory Center respectfully requests $10,000 from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Foundation to help establish a state-of-the-art sensory room that will expand therapeutic learning opportunities for students with autism spectrum disorder to be established and built in 2027.
For more than 25 years, The Victory Center has provided highly individualized education and therapeutic services for children and young adults with autism. Instruction is grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a research-based approach that uses structured teaching, data collection, and positive reinforcement to help individuals build communication, social, and functional life skills. Because many students with autism experience sensory processing challenges that affect attention, emotional regulation, and behavior, environments that support sensory integration are critical to their ability to learn and thrive.
Research shows that sensory-based environments can reduce anxiety, improve self-regulation, and increase engagement in learning activities for children with autism. A dedicated sensory room will allow Victory Center students to access therapeutic equipment that helps regulate sensory input while strengthening motor planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
The planned sensory room will include equipment specifically selected to support sensory integration and physical development. A raindrop swing will provide gentle movement and deep pressure that help students calm their bodies, develop body awareness, and improve motor planning. A modular balance beam set will strengthen coordination and collaborative play while building confidence in movement. Hopscotch gel floor tiles will provide visual stimulation while encouraging jumping and gross motor activity. A Jumparoo will offer “heavy work,” an important therapeutic strategy that helps students regulate sensory input and improve body awareness. A low-profile climbing wall will promote problem-solving, strength, and safe exploration of movement.
Together, these tools will create a multi-sensory therapeutic environment that helps students regulate their bodies, engage in learning, and build independence. With the Hermanowski Foundation’s support, The Victory Center will provide students with autism access to a dynamic space designed to strengthen both developmental outcomes and long-term quality of life.
If awarded we would like to offer a naming opportunity for our sensory room as The Hermanowski Foundation Sensory Room. Thank you for your time, consideration and partnership.

Project Title: CLASSES
Project Description:

Our evidence-based curriculum integrates Character, Leadership, Academic Success, Student Engagement, Entrepreneurship, and STEM (CLASSES) to address systemic achievement gaps and the digital divide. Class Matters Inc. seeks funding to support our CLASSES After-School STEM Program, a workforce and college readiness initiative for underserved middle and high school students in Northeast and Northwest Oklahoma City. This project aims to equip 100 underrepresented youth across five after-school cohort sites (20 students per site) with the tools, mentorship, and hands-on experiences necessary to pursue careers in STEM and medicine.
Currently, targeted schools in these communities face a lack of STEM infrastructure and instructional resources, primarily due to an institutional focus on the arts. This funding will enable us to purchase essential STEM supplies and equipment, allowing students to engage in real-world, project-based learning that bridges classroom instruction and future career paths.
The year-round CLASSES program delivers weekly sessions (2–3 hours) that incorporate:
• Peer-to-peer mentoring and academic support
• Hands-on STEM projects and enrichment
• Workforce readiness and leadership development
• Soft skills and 21st-century skill-building
• Industry exposure through partnerships in healthcare, aviation, IT, and energy
We embed the Engineering Design Process (EDP) into every major STEM project to teach students how to think critically, approach challenges methodically, and resolve conflicts constructively.

Project Title: Ending the Silence
Project Description:

According to a study by the California Endowment: ““Young adults in California experience mental health challenges at alarming rates, with more than three-quarters reporting anxiety in the last year, more than half reporting depression, 31% experiencing suicidal thinking and 16% self-harm.:

NAMI-SCC brings Ending the Silence (ETS) into high schools and middle schools in Santa Clara County. ETS is a 50-minute interactive and transformational presentation devoted to giving students an opportunity to learn about mental illness through an informative presentation, short videos, and personal testimonies.

A trained two-person team, one being an individual who shares their own journey with a diagnosable mental health condition, delivers the program. Students learn about symptoms and indicators of mental illness and are given resources aimed at helping themselves, their friends, or family members who may be in need of support.

At the conclusion of the presentation, students are given resource cards with valuable phone numbers and websites of mental health agencies and youth support services, along with a list of symptoms/warning signs of mental illness. Postcards are mailed home to parents informing them about the presentation.

Moving stories from positive role models have the power to change kids’ views. The discussion gives students the rare opportunity to ask questions about mental health challenges to people who have lived it. The presentation’s message of empathy and hope encourages students to actively care for themselves and their friends. It also teaches them it’s okay to talk about what they’re feeling. ETS covers:
1. Early warning signs
2. Facts and statistics about youth and mental health conditions
3. When, where, and how to get help for themselves or their friends
4. When it’s not okay to keep a secret

Project Title: Infant Formula Program
Project Description:

First Street Methodist Mission began in the1950s, when First United Methodist Church Fort Worth (FUMCFW) recognized a need for food and nutrition support within a downtown housing community. In response, the Mission was formed and quickly expanded its services, creating programs designed to meet a variety of needs. One of the earliest of these initiatives was the Infant Formula Program, created to ensure infants in the community received essential, age-appropriate nutrition.

The Infant Formula program was developed in part due to high levels of infant mortality in Tarrant County and specifically in areas near the downtown Fort Worth area where First Street and FUMCFW are located. Although significant efforts have been made to reduce these numbers, challenges remain. While many complex factors contribute to infant mortality, the Mission then and now believes that ensuring reliable access to proper infant nutrition is an important part of the solution.

Today, the Infant Formula program at First Street continues this vital work by providing families with children up to one year of age with infant formula, age-appropriate baby food, and baby-care supplies. Parents may access these resources twice each month, helping local infants receive the nutrition they need for healthy growth and development.

In 2025, First Street provided infant formula to 200 unique households, amounting to 602 total services. Already in 2026, the Mission has supported 44 households with 70 visits. Behind each of these numbers is a baby who is nourished, a parent who can breathe a little easier, and a family strengthened by the care of this community. These thousands of ounces of formula represent far more than nutrition; they represent hope, health, and the promise of a stronger future for every child we serve.

Total Project Budget: $35,800.00

Project Title: Smiles Across Arizona
Project Description:

Smiles Across Arizona is a mobile oral health outreach initiative led by TheSmileZone to provide preventive dental care, education, and hygiene resources to underserved children across Arizona. The program focuses on reaching children from low-income families who face barriers to accessing dental care, including financial limitations, transportation challenges, and limited availability of pediatric dental providers.

Through partnerships with schools, Head Start programs, childcare centers, and community health fairs, TheSmileZone delivers dental screenings, fluoride varnish treatments, and oral health education directly where children live and learn. Each participating child also receives a dental hygiene kit that includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and educational materials to support healthy daily habits at home.

Funding from the Hermanowski Foundation will support the purchase of essential dental supplies, preventive materials, and hygiene kits needed to serve approximately 2,500 children during the project year. These resources allow our team of dental professionals and volunteers to safely provide preventive services and education at no cost to families.

The primary goals of Smiles Across Arizona are to reduce untreated tooth decay, increase oral health knowledge among children and caregivers, and connect families to local dental providers for continued care when needed. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, the program helps children avoid pain, infection, and missed school days caused by untreated dental disease.

Through this initiative, TheSmileZone aims to create lasting improvements in children’s health and well-being while ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed with a healthy smile.
