Project Title: Infant Formula Program
Project Description:

First Street Methodist Mission began in the1950s, when First United Methodist Church Fort Worth (FUMCFW) recognized a need for food and nutrition support within a downtown housing community. In response, the Mission was formed and quickly expanded its services, creating programs designed to meet a variety of needs. One of the earliest of these initiatives was the Infant Formula Program, created to ensure infants in the community received essential, age-appropriate nutrition.

The Infant Formula program was developed in part due to high levels of infant mortality in Tarrant County and specifically in areas near the downtown Fort Worth area where First Street and FUMCFW are located. Although significant efforts have been made to reduce these numbers, challenges remain. While many complex factors contribute to infant mortality, the Mission then and now believes that ensuring reliable access to proper infant nutrition is an important part of the solution.

Today, the Infant Formula program at First Street continues this vital work by providing families with children up to one year of age with infant formula, age-appropriate baby food, and baby-care supplies. Parents may access these resources twice each month, helping local infants receive the nutrition they need for healthy growth and development.

In 2025, First Street provided infant formula to 200 unique households, amounting to 602 total services. Already in 2026, the Mission has supported 44 households with 70 visits. Behind each of these numbers is a baby who is nourished, a parent who can breathe a little easier, and a family strengthened by the care of this community. These thousands of ounces of formula represent far more than nutrition; they represent hope, health, and the promise of a stronger future for every child we serve.
