Project Title: The Solomon Leadership Program
Project Description:

The Solomon Leadership Program is a yearlong leadership and character development experience for high school juniors and seniors. Through twelve two hour sessions, students study core leadership principles and participate in guided discussions with accomplished community professionals who volunteer as mentors and guest speakers. After completing the program, fellows graduate and receive three college credits through our partnership with Palm Beach Atlantic University.

The curriculum is taught through the Socratic method, encouraging independent thinking and ethical decision making. Developed with academic oversight from Palm Beach Atlantic University, it is refined annually and uses real life stories to explore leadership through eight Pillars which include character, tolerance, communication, vision, empowerment, persistence, strategy and judgment. Fellows read articles, watch curated talks and examine real scenarios faced by leaders, applying these lessons to their own experiences.

Independent Study prepares fellows through textbook modules and online homework submitted before each session. Guest Speaker presentations feature leaders from fields such as business, law, medicine, education and government who share how they apply each leadership pillar in their work. Mentor Discussions follow, where small groups meet with volunteer mentors who guide reflection and help fellows connect each concept to real situations in their lives.

This intergenerational model builds leadership ability and strengthens community connection. Fellows grow in character, confidence and purpose as they learn to lead thoughtfully and ethically.

In Florida, the program currently operates two chapters in Palm Beach County, one at Palm Beach Synagogue and another in partnership with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, and six additional chapters across South Florida, including Aventura, Bal Harbour, Fort Lauderdale, Parkland, Miami Beach, and Sunny Isles. These partnerships ensure cultural inclusivity and direct access to all students, including those from Title I and underserved communities. Currently, 130 students are enrolled, with plans to expand to approximately 200 next year with additional funding.

Project Title: Growing Futures
Project Description:

Minary’s Dream Alliance proposes Rooted & Rising, a comprehensive, trauma-informed initiative designed to support children and young adults up to age 21 through integrated programming in education, health, and overall welfare, with a strong emphasis on mental health, life skills development, and youth empowerment.

At the core of this project is the intentional use of Minary’s Dream Alliance’s Healing Garden and Nature Sacred Spaces as living classrooms and restorative environments. These spaces provide safe, culturally responsive settings where youth can engage in nature-based practices proven to support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and resilience. Programming will combine hands-on garden activities, mindfulness and grounding exercises, social-emotional learning, and practical life skills instruction.

Youth participants will take part in facilitated workshops that build self-awareness, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and healthy coping strategies. Activities include guided mindfulness in nature, collaborative garden stewardship, nutrition and food-justice education, creative expression, and peer-led reflection circles. These experiences are designed to strengthen executive functioning, foster positive identity development, and reinforce a sense of belonging and community connection.

The project prioritizes youth who face barriers related to adverse childhood experiences, housing instability, economic hardship, and limited access to mental health resources. By embedding learning within nature and centering culturally affirming practices, Rooted & Rising meets young people where they are and honors their lived experiences.

Through consistent engagement, youth will gain practical tools to manage emotions, set goals, navigate relationships, and make informed decisions that support academic success, personal well-being, and long-term stability. Ultimately, Rooted & Rising cultivates healthier, more confident young people who are equipped to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically while remaining rooted in community and connection.

Project Title: Mind the Gap
Project Description:

“Mind the Gap” is an effort to improve outcomes of children entering foster care by meeting their critical needs (for clothing and, at times, for food) more immediately. Inadequate clothing is correlated with poor health outcomes, encompassing physical, mental, and social well-being, and including a higher likelihood for anxiety, musculoskeletal issues, reduced exercise, infections, skin conditions, and social isolation. Adequate food is obviously a basic survival requirement. Unfortunately, many children enter foster care from extreme deprivation, sometimes arriving with only the clothes on their backs. Their foster carers, often family members who assume this role on short notice, are sometimes themselves in economically vulnerable circumstances, and—unhelpfully—County foster care stipends do not arrive until at least 45 days after a foster placement has begun.

This 45-day “Gap” is what we hope to address: a child should not have to wait 6 weeks for clean, adequate clothing or enough to eat.

Children in foster care have a high incidence of mental health challenges. Their ability to establish a foundation for addressing these concerns should not be compromised by a lack of basic resources during the critical initial period of placement. Basic needs are survival needs. Many high-needs households, however, simply do not have an adequate cushion to absorb the cost of providing these children an adequate wardrobe and nutritious food immediately.

Our intent is to offer a per child allocation of up to $500.00 (gift card, food, or clothing equivalent), toward supporting children in the first 45 days of placement, in foster homes identified as “extremely high needs,” by social workers in Orange County Resource Family Support. These social workers have informed us that they encounter a child with this exceptional need level at a rate of approximately once per week. With this in mind, our annual budget, intended to serve 52 children, is $26,000.

Total Project Budget: $26,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): We have received $15,000 in donations from individuals toward this project. We have submitted grant requests to a few organizations for additional funds (Stater Brothers, Starbucks, Costco) but we have not heard back from them. We applied for a $1000 community grant from the City of Anaheim.

Nurturing Little Seeds Family Resource Center (FRC) is a startup initiative dedicated to supporting families in Waupaca County by providing accessible, high-quality resources, programs, and services that promote healthy child development, family well-being, and community engagement. Our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive space where families—regardless of background or income—can access educational opportunities, social support, and hands-on learning experiences.

Special attention will be given to underserved populations, including families who are homeschooling, families with limited access to early learning programs, and those facing economic or social barriers.

Nurturing Little Seeds will operate according to the Wisconsin Family Resource Center Best Practice Guidelines, ensuring consistency and quality across all programming. Our approach emphasizes family-centered services, culturally responsive practices, and data-informed decision-making. Project Title: Our Bright Future Digital Arts Program
Project Description:

Our Bright Future (OBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) programming. We serve students ages 7–17 through after-school and summer programs in Webster, Worcester, Dudley, and Southbridge, Massachusetts. Each year, OBF provides engaging, skill-building opportunities that foster creativity, confidence, and real-world problem solving for youth who may not otherwise have access to STEAM enrichment.

In November, Our Bright Future reached a major milestone by purchasing our first permanent building, which is currently being renovated into the Southbridge Learning Center. This new space will allow us to expand our reach from serving 575 students annually to 955 students, while providing dedicated rooms for robotics, digital design, 3D printing, bioscience, athletics, and creative arts.

OBF is seeking support from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to strengthen our Cricut and digital design program as we prepare for this expansion. Our digital design program introduces students to design software and creative technology through hands-on projects that blend art, technology, and entrepreneurship. Using Cricut machines and a BAi embroidery machine, students design and produce custom items such as t-shirts, tote bags, hats, bookmarks, and decals. Through this process, students learn design fundamentals, branding, file preparation, and production skills while turning their ideas into tangible products.

Grant funds would be used to purchase two additional Cricut machines, a BAi embroidery machine, and essential materials including vinyl, thread, stabilizer, and blank items such as t-shirts, tote bags, and bookmarks. These resources will ensure that more students can actively participate in creative design activities as enrollment grows.
