Project Title: IPCS Scholar Shuttle: Ensuring Safe and Reliable Transportation for Scholars
Project Description:

Intellectus Preparatory Charter School (IPCS) is seeking $10,000 in grant funding to support the operational costs of the IPCS Scholar Shuttle Program, a transportation initiative designed to ensure safe, reliable, and equitable access to education for scholars in Mount Vernon, NY. IPCS serves students in grades 6-12, with 100% of our high school population identifying as Black or Brown and 82% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many of our scholars face long, unsafe commutes using public transportation, increasing their risk of harassment, violence, and chronic absenteeism. Tragically, one of our students was sexually assaulted after being followed from her Mount Vernon bus stop to her home in the Bronx. This grant will directly support the operational costs of the IPCS Scholar Shuttle, ensuring the sustainability of this critical initiative.

Funding will be allocated toward fuel, insurance, vehicle maintenance, and partial driver wages, allowing IPCS to continue providing free transportation to the most vulnerable students. By removing transportation barriers, IPCS anticipates an increase in attendance, punctuality, and overall scholar safety. The shuttle program also supports our broader mission of providing an equitable educational experience, as safe and consistent transportation is essential for student success.

With the support of the Hermanowski Family Foundation, IPCS can continue to protect and empower scholars, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to focus on their education without fear or barriers to access.

Project Title: Musical Sprouts Children’s Educational Program at SAMMinistries’ Transitional Living & Learning Center
Project Description:

Musical Sprouts at SAMMinistries: Project Description

Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW) seeks $10,000 to implement our Musical Sprouts program at SAMMinistries Transitional Living and Learning Center’s Children’s Enrichment Center, serving 35 children experiencing housing insecurity over one year.

Need: Children experiencing housing insecurity face significant challenges that impact their educational outcomes and social-emotional development. In San Antonio, where 25.7% of children live below the federal poverty line, these challenges are particularly acute. According to the U.S. Department of Education, students in high-poverty schools are 50% less likely to receive arts education, creating an "arts opportunity gap" that disproportionately affects vulnerable children.

Program: Musical Sprouts integrates multicultural music experiences with social-emotional learning through 80 lessons (2 lessons/week for 40 weeks). Professional teaching artists will lead activities including:
Cultural exploration through music, stories, and visual arts
Hands-on instrument learning
Collaborative creative projects
Live concert experiences

Expected Outcomes: The program will improve participants’ social-emotional learning as measured by the Devereaux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA), focusing on:
Self-awareness and self-management
Relationship skills
Goal-directed behavior
Decision-making

Implementation: MBAW’s experienced teaching artists will deliver curriculum adaptable to different age groups and learning styles, using trauma-informed practices. SAMMinistries staff will collaborate to ensure program alignment with children’s needs.

Evaluation: Progress will be measured through pre/post DESSA assessments, attendance tracking, staff observations, and feedback surveys.

This project directly aligns with the Hermanowski Family Foundation’s mission to improve children’s lives by providing tools for success through arts, education, and welfare services.

Project Title: Children and Youth Mental Wellness Program
Project Description:

The Children and Youth Mental Wellness Program serves Palm Beach County (PBC) children/youth 3-21 who cannot obtain care otherwise due to inability to afford. The need for affordable, easily accessible mental healthcare services remains high. In 2024, 240 children/youth were served by this program; 92 aboard the Mobile Hope Clinic (MHC) and 148 in-office/via telehealth.

Quality mental wellness services help children/youth suffering from trauma regulate their emotions, stop self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation/attempts, and prevents costly, additionally traumatic inpatient placement.

For PBC’s most in-need children/youth, services are:

• FREE to those who qualify
• provided by qualified therapists experienced in child/youth trauma
• offered in English/Spanish/Creole
• available without a waitlist
• easily accessible through our ‘avenues to care’; in-office/telehealth/MHC

Funding will support direct mental healthcare services to children/youth (3-21) where services are easiest to access for the client; in-office/telehealth/MHC. The MHC continues to demonstrate great efficacy for expanding services to PBC’s most in-need children/youth. Operating on our highly successful ‘community-partner model’, the MHC serves children/youth on-site at other local agencies where they already visit for other needs, thereby eliminating transportation barriers to come to us. The MHC currently provides services each week to children/youth in the after school programs at 4 PBC Boys & Girls Clubs (Boca/Delray/West Palm/Riviera Beach). The agency continually seeks new MHC community partners where we can serve more in-need children/youth.

Clients without insurance/living below poverty level are offered 8-10 FREE sessions. Those that do not qualify for free sessions are offered extremely reduced rates based on a sliding scale starting at $45 per session.

The $8,000 award from the Hermanowski Family Foundation for services in 2025 was deeply appreciated. We are hopeful the Hermanowski Family Foundation will consider supporting services again in 2026; the requested $10,000 will support 57 hours of free/low-cost mental healthcare services to in need PBC children/youth (3-21).

Our Road to Independence (RTI) program is a structured, 90-day initiative designed to help families transition from homelessness to sustainable independence. Families engage in financial literacy workshops, life skills training, and employment support to help them achieve self-sufficiency. After graduation, we continue providing post-program support, connecting families with community resources to help ensure long-term stability. Through RTI, we aim to break the cycle of homelessness and foster resilience for families in crisis.

Our goals include ensuring that 100% of parents attend weekly case management meetings and that all family members participate in mental health sessions to address the trauma of homelessness, particularly for children. Project Title: Children’s Services to Independence Program (CSTI)
Project Description:

The CSTI program at the Lighthouse of Broward is dedicated to empowering blind and visually impaired (BVI) youth under 13 in Broward County. Having been in our new 25,000 square-foot facility in Sunrise, FL for a year, we are currently in the permitting stage of renovations that are slated to further enhance our ability to serve the community more effectively. This expanded space has already allowed us to reach more families and improve the quality and variety of our services. Currently, CSTI serves over 96 BVI children and their families, including more than 36 participants in the Bright Beginnings Early Intervention Program for infants to five-year-olds. This program employs play therapy to stimulate remaining senses—hearing, touch, taste, smell, and proprioception—while fostering cognitive skills, communication abilities, assistive technology proficiency, and essential life skills such as personal hygiene and motor development.

For children aged 6 to 13, CSTI offers comprehensive year-round programming that focuses on academic enrichment, life skills, and social development. Activities are provided during non-school days, Saturdays, and summer breaks, with instruction in safe travel, cooking, self-care, Braille literacy, computer use, and effective communication. The curriculum integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) elements and follows the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), an evidence-based framework designed to equip BVI youth with the skills needed for independence. Our specialized Teachers of the Visually Impaired deliver personalized support in one-on-one and small group settings.

Additionally, CSTI addresses the needs of children with multiple disabilities, a growing demographic identified by the School Board of Broward County. By providing adaptive equipment, personalized learning plans, and targeted interventions, CSTI bridges critical service gaps for BVI youth who are often excluded from traditional educational settings. Through these comprehensive efforts, CSTI fosters independence, self-advocacy, and academic success, empowering BVI children to thrive both academically and socially.

Requested Amount: $7,000

Project Title: Warrior Counseling Works Equine Therapy
Project Description:

Warrior Counseling Works offers a transformative equine-assisted therapy program specifically designed for the mental health needs of at-risk youth in Texas. Our mobile therapy model enables us to bring horses and therapy directly to shelters, residential treatment centers, and community organizations, setting up round pens on-site. Our certified teams, comprising a Mental Health Specialist and an Equine Specialist, serve over 350 at-risk youth and veterans annually.

We are seeking funding to enhance our at-risk youth program, utilizing the awarded funds from October 2025 through the end of September 2026.

Equine therapy provides a unique, experiential learning environment where youth can develop emotional regulation, build trust, and enhance social skills. The interaction with non-judgmental and responsive horses promotes self-awareness and confidence, helping to reduce symptoms of mental health issues. This approach fosters resilience and coping strategies, supporting youth in processing trauma and improving overall well-being in a nurturing setting.

Similarly, at-risk youth in foster care or residential treatment centers face alarming challenges. Studies show that up to 80% of foster youth exhibit significant mental health issues, with many lacking access to trauma-informed care. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration highlights that early intervention is key to breaking cycles of trauma, abuse, and neglect.

By overcoming barriers such as transportation and stigma, Warrior Counseling Works ensures that underserved populations receive the critical care they need.
