Project Title: IPCS Scholar Shuttle: Ensuring Safe and Reliable Transportation for Scholars
Project Description:

Intellectus Preparatory Charter School (IPCS) is seeking $10,000 in grant funding to support the operational costs of the IPCS Scholar Shuttle Program, a transportation initiative designed to ensure safe, reliable, and equitable access to education for scholars in Mount Vernon, NY. IPCS serves students in grades 6-12, with 100% of our high school population identifying as Black or Brown and 82% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many of our scholars face long, unsafe commutes using public transportation, increasing their risk of harassment, violence, and chronic absenteeism. Tragically, one of our students was sexually assaulted after being followed from her Mount Vernon bus stop to her home in the Bronx. This grant will directly support the operational costs of the IPCS Scholar Shuttle, ensuring the sustainability of this critical initiative.

Funding will be allocated toward fuel, insurance, vehicle maintenance, and partial driver wages, allowing IPCS to continue providing free transportation to the most vulnerable students. By removing transportation barriers, IPCS anticipates an increase in attendance, punctuality, and overall scholar safety. The shuttle program also supports our broader mission of providing an equitable educational experience, as safe and consistent transportation is essential for student success.

With the support of the Hermanowski Family Foundation, IPCS can continue to protect and empower scholars, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to focus on their education without fear or barriers to access.
