Project Title: Elevate Tutor Fellowship Program
Project Description:

Elevate’s Tutor Fellowship Program recruits and places low-income and first-generation college students in K-12 schools across the San Francisco Bay Area, where they act as mentors and tutors for students in need. Each college student receives training, career and professional development workshops, networking opportunities, and an $8,000 education award. Our program is diligently designed to meet the needs of Tutor Fellows, all of whom are first-generation, low-income college students. The scholarship we provide reduces financial stress and debt, allowing them to focus on their studies. The transformative metacognitive skills that they learn in their training, combined with the encouragement and support of being part of the tight-knit Elevate community, helps them persist through college. The career guidance, professional development, and networking opportunities we provide give Fellows the tools and opportunities they need to advance academically, successfully enter the workforce, and gain economic mobility. In turn, the Tutor Fellows create opportunities for advancement for K-12 students. We train our Tutor Fellows to establish a space for young people to discover and demonstrate their brilliance- to not only gain confidence in their academic skills, but in their value as people. The relatability of age and background positions Tutor Fellows to become transformative role models to younger students who are facing the same uphill battles, encouraging resilience, and expanding their vision of what is possible for their futures.

Over the past 13 years, Elevate has supported over 300 college students who have delivered 28,000+ hours of free tutoring while earning more than $1 million in scholarships to help pay for college. We are currently supporting a cohort of 103 Tutor Fellows – the largest in our organization’s history!

Project Title: Hippo-therapy Training 2025 Programming
Project Description:

Founded in 2022, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide permanent homes for horses discarded by the racing industry, many of which are facing slaughter.

Our sanctuary is more than just a place for horses. It’s a community hub that fosters the bond between horses and humans. We open our doors weekly to homeschool groups, assisted living groups, church groups, and volunteers.

Our mission is deeply personal. Our founder’s son was diagnosed with a genetic degenerative disease at the age of 6 and she saw firsthand the transformative power of hippo-therapy. At Zorro’s, we are committed to providing other children with special needs the same opportunity for therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment with horses that have the potential to transform their lives, helping with coordination, balance, and strength.

We have recently launched a hippo-therapy program and forged a valuable partnership with Sue Soha, an experienced physical therapist and hippo-therapy instructor— https://specialsettingspt.com/hippotherapy. You can learn more about our program launch at https://bit.ly/ZorroHippoTherapy.

Grant funding is necessary for the growth of our program. With your support, we can dedicate more personalized time to training our hippo-therapy horses. This will significantly expand our program’s reach and impact, allowing us to serve more special needs children.

Project Title: Bridge Program
Project Description:

At this time, we are looking to develop our mental health support and mindfulness program that we offer to “Bridge” students; this is why we are seeking funding from your Foundation. The grant would be used to bring in social workers and mindfulness practitioners who are trained in or have life experience working with marginalized populations and low-income students. The funding would also provide some professional development for our faculty in these same areas so that we could continue this work in an on-going fashion.

Adolescents right now have higher levels of anxiety and depression than ever before. Our program provides a respite from many of the stressful factors of high school life. We take the students’ phones and turn off the internet (there is no cell service on campus) and help them to connect in person to each other and this place. We work hard to connect our low income and first-generation students to networks and resources that will support them here as well as when they leave this campus. The funds we are requesting would support us in these efforts and help us to teach students techniques that will improve their mental health long after their time at the Mountain School. We evaluate all of our programs through anonymous and in person feedback sessions. We ask participants to complete surveys, take part in exit interviews and then join focus groups in the years afterwards to report on impact and outcomes. This is a regular part of our work with our alumni and helps us to evaluate how our program is affecting students’ lives and then make adjustments.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 2/23/2025
Requested Amount: 5,000

Project Title: Winter 2025-2026 Production
Project Description:

Bright Lights Theatre (BLT) exists to train the next generation as masterful storytellers who share the light of Christ. Through productions, workshops, and summer camps, BLT educates students in all aspects of theatre while fostering spiritual growth, teamwork, and resilience.

The Winter 2025-2026 production will provide students with a theatre experience, from auditions in October 2025 to a full-scale performance in March 2026. Students will engage in a rigorous artistic process, including auditions, rehearsals, and performances, developing essential skills in acting, stage management, and technical theatre. By immersing students in high-quality storytelling, this project enhances their confidence, creativity, and communication abilities.
Accessibility remains a key pillar of BLT’s mission. Less than 20% of children from below-poverty-level households participate in extracurricular arts programs—half the rate of their more affluent peers—limiting their access to the benefits of theatre education. To bridge this gap, BLT offers scholarships and financial assistance, ensuring all students can participate regardless of socioeconomic status.
Beyond artistic development, theatre serves as a powerful tool for emotional expression, providing a critical outlet amid the ongoing youth mental health crisis. More than 42% of high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and theatre offers a safe space to build confidence, discipline, and resilience.
By combining artistic excellence with faith-based mentorship, this winter production will equip students with valuable life skills, foster a supportive community, and inspire audiences through compelling storytelling that reflects truth and light.

Total Project Budget: 19,200

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Bright Lights Theatre is committed to making high-quality arts education accessible to all children, regardless of financial circumstances. To ensure that program fees remain affordable—particularly for low-income families who might otherwise be unable to participate in extracurricular arts programs—the organization strategically relies on a diverse range of funding sources. While program revenue serves as the primary source of income, it does not fully cover operating expenses, making additional funding essential to sustaining the theatre’s mission. Support from foundations plays a critical role in bridging this financial gap, helping to offset costs and ensure that tuition remains within reach for families of all backgrounds. Individual donations and contributions from North Texas Giving Day provide further assistance, allowing Bright Lights Theatre to expand access to its programs. Corporate sponsorships also contribute to overall sustainability, while revenue generated from the BLT Store—though modest—adds another layer of financial support. This diversified funding approach strengthens the organization’s long-term financial stability, reducing reliance on any single revenue stream and enabling Bright Lights Theatre to continue offering scholarships and maintaining the high quality of its programming. Production Funding (potential): Meadows Foundation, $29,050; Rea Charitable Trust, $20,000; Alice E and Joseph C Blewett, $5,000 General Operating Support (potential): Pangburn Foundation, $15,000; Martha Sue Parr Trust, $15,000; Katherine C. Project Title: Stable Paths
Project Description:

Stable Paths is a free, youth-focused, equine-assisted program designed to prevent substance abuse, develop leadership skills, and foster emotional resilience through hands-on experiences with senior rescue horses. Running two sessions per month, the program provides a structured, supportive environment where participants learn accountability, emotional regulation, and decision-making strategies that directly translate into their personal lives.

Each session begins with a guided discussion led by volunteer mentors, including drug and alcohol counselors and individuals in recovery. Participants explore topics like peer pressure, self-advocacy, and resilience. They then apply these lessons through hands-on work with their assigned horse, focusing on groundwork, communication, and trust-building.

Unlike traditional equine programs, Stable Paths does not focus on riding. Instead, youth engage in horse care, barn management, and problem-solving exercises that encourage responsibility, patience, and teamwork. Through structured activities, participants learn that consistency, effort, and honest communication create strong relationships—whether with horses or people.

The requested $6,000 will fund 8 sessions over four months, January -April 2026, covering the cost of feed, facility maintenance, program materials, and meals for participants. Providing a nutritious lunch ensures that youth can fully engage, especially for those from food-insecure households.

By working with large, emotionally intuitive animals, youth gain confidence, self-discipline, and the tools to make better life choices. Stable Paths provides a lifeline for youth navigating difficult circumstances, equipping them with skills that extend far beyond the barn.

Project Title: Earth Voices
Project Description:

Earth Guardians Earth Voices (EV) education and action initiative empowers BIPOC students ages 8–18 from underserved communities to lead in the climate/environmental justice movement. In 2024, the inaugural program engaged over 1,400 students across eight events in cities like New York, Denver, and Chicago. Through keynotes, interactive workshops, and ongoing mentorship, students gained skills to address climate change, amplify marginalized voices, and create community-driven environmental solutions.

This program is urgently needed as climate change disproportionately impacts underserved BIPOC communities, exacerbating systemic inequities. Gen Z reports high levels of climate anxiety and disconnection from nature, compounded by limited access to climate education. Earth Voices addresses these challenges by equipping youth with tools, mentorship, and actionable pathways to turn their despair into climate action.

In 2025, EV will engage 14 schools in major metropolitan areas including New York, Baltimore, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, San Diego. Each 2-3 hour event will feature EG’s professional youth speakers delivering a keynote and slideshow on what it means to get engaged in environmental justice leadership and community engagement, followed by a hands-on interactive workshop on strategic grassroots environmental organizing. Activities include brainstorming community-specific projects, identifying stakeholders, and creating action plans for initiatives like community gardens, waste reduction, and waterway cleanups.

After events, students are guided in forming EG Crews—youth-led groups focused on local environmental solutions. As our central program, Crews receive ongoing mentorship, training, virtual master classes, project grants, and access to EG’s global network of 101 active Crews to collaborate with and learn from peers across the globe. By the end of 2025, Earth Voices aims to establish 10 new school Crews and mobilize 800 additional youth to lead local environmental justice projects in their communities.

Earth Voices exemplifies EG’s commitment to centering youth agency, amplifying youth leadership, and advancing environmental justice.

Project Title: Young Innovator Squad (YIS)
Project Description:

The Young Innovator Squad (YIS) is a 12-month incentivized community-based program providing holistic, healing-centered case management to emerging young adults who have been impacted by the criminal-legal system. This can include young people previously identified as low to moderate risk levels, transitioning from or aged out of foster care, enrolled in independent living programs, and emancipated youth. Informed by the Adverse Childhood Experiences study and rooted in evidence-based and -informed practices like Healing-Centered Engagement™, Collaborative Problem Solving®, and Circle of Courage®, YIS helps emerging adults (Young Innovators) transition into adulthood with the necessary skills and support. Young Innovators gain access to:

Reliable resources and relationships to address their basic needs
A brave space to develop and demonstrate an increased sense of belonging
Skill-building to support their successful transition into adulthood

Young Innovators complete an individualized plan, participate in weekly 1:1 goal monitoring meetings with assigned Culture Workers (case manager), complete self-guided activities, and attend career, creative, and wellness workshops. Participants accumulate hours from active program participation and progress toward personalized goals. YIS programming includes:

Case Management: Collaborative goal-setting, problem-solving, and advocacy for resources.
Resource Referral: Holistic support in connecting with others, programs, and opportunities that support their development and transition into adulthood.
Self-Guided Activities: Participation in workshops facilitated by community partners or program staff that allow for group learning, team building, and information gathering. Young Innovators also play an important role in identifying workshop topics and have the potential to lead workshops.
Enrichment and Leisure Activities: Opportunities for practice rest, play, and bonding with other Young Innovators and program staff.

By providing direct support to youth and their caregivers, we are working to ensure that at least 85% of the youth we touch remain free from incarceration and that at least 90% of them improve their sense of self-worth.
