Project Title: Stable Paths
Project Description:
Stable Paths is a free, youth-focused, equine-assisted program designed to prevent substance abuse, develop leadership skills, and foster emotional resilience through hands-on experiences with senior rescue horses. Running two sessions per month, the program provides a structured, supportive environment where participants learn accountability, emotional regulation, and decision-making strategies that directly translate into their personal lives.
Each session begins with a guided discussion led by volunteer mentors, including drug and alcohol counselors and individuals in recovery. Participants explore topics like peer pressure, self-advocacy, and resilience. They then apply these lessons through hands-on work with their assigned horse, focusing on groundwork, communication, and trust-building.
Unlike traditional equine programs, Stable Paths does not focus on riding. Instead, youth engage in horse care, barn management, and problem-solving exercises that encourage responsibility, patience, and teamwork. Through structured activities, participants learn that consistency, effort, and honest communication create strong relationships—whether with horses or people.
The requested $6,000 will fund 8 sessions over four months, January -April 2026, covering the cost of feed, facility maintenance, program materials, and meals for participants. Providing a nutritious lunch ensures that youth can fully engage, especially for those from food-insecure households.
By working with large, emotionally intuitive animals, youth gain confidence, self-discipline, and the tools to make better life choices. Stable Paths provides a lifeline for youth navigating difficult circumstances, equipping them with skills that extend far beyond the barn.
