Project Title: Young Innovator Squad (YIS)
Project Description:

The Young Innovator Squad (YIS) is a 12-month incentivized community-based program providing holistic, healing-centered case management to emerging young adults who have been impacted by the criminal-legal system. This can include young people previously identified as low to moderate risk levels, transitioning from or aged out of foster care, enrolled in independent living programs, and emancipated youth. Informed by the Adverse Childhood Experiences study and rooted in evidence-based and -informed practices like Healing-Centered Engagement™, Collaborative Problem Solving®, and Circle of Courage®, YIS helps emerging adults (Young Innovators) transition into adulthood with the necessary skills and support. Young Innovators gain access to:

Reliable resources and relationships to address their basic needs
A brave space to develop and demonstrate an increased sense of belonging
Skill-building to support their successful transition into adulthood

Young Innovators complete an individualized plan, participate in weekly 1:1 goal monitoring meetings with assigned Culture Workers (case manager), complete self-guided activities, and attend career, creative, and wellness workshops. Participants accumulate hours from active program participation and progress toward personalized goals. YIS programming includes:

Case Management: Collaborative goal-setting, problem-solving, and advocacy for resources.
Resource Referral: Holistic support in connecting with others, programs, and opportunities that support their development and transition into adulthood.
Self-Guided Activities: Participation in workshops facilitated by community partners or program staff that allow for group learning, team building, and information gathering. Young Innovators also play an important role in identifying workshop topics and have the potential to lead workshops.
Enrichment and Leisure Activities: Opportunities for practice rest, play, and bonding with other Young Innovators and program staff.

By providing direct support to youth and their caregivers, we are working to ensure that at least 85% of the youth we touch remain free from incarceration and that at least 90% of them improve their sense of self-worth.
