Project Title: Elevate Tutor Fellowship Program
Project Description:

Elevate’s Tutor Fellowship Program recruits and places low-income and first-generation college students in K-12 schools across the San Francisco Bay Area, where they act as mentors and tutors for students in need. Each college student receives training, career and professional development workshops, networking opportunities, and an $8,000 education award. Our program is diligently designed to meet the needs of Tutor Fellows, all of whom are first-generation, low-income college students. The scholarship we provide reduces financial stress and debt, allowing them to focus on their studies. The transformative metacognitive skills that they learn in their training, combined with the encouragement and support of being part of the tight-knit Elevate community, helps them persist through college. The career guidance, professional development, and networking opportunities we provide give Fellows the tools and opportunities they need to advance academically, successfully enter the workforce, and gain economic mobility. In turn, the Tutor Fellows create opportunities for advancement for K-12 students. We train our Tutor Fellows to establish a space for young people to discover and demonstrate their brilliance- to not only gain confidence in their academic skills, but in their value as people. The relatability of age and background positions Tutor Fellows to become transformative role models to younger students who are facing the same uphill battles, encouraging resilience, and expanding their vision of what is possible for their futures.

Over the past 13 years, Elevate has supported over 300 college students who have delivered 28,000+ hours of free tutoring while earning more than $1 million in scholarships to help pay for college. We are currently supporting a cohort of 103 Tutor Fellows – the largest in our organization’s history!
