Project Title: Every Kid Outdoors
Project Description:

The "Every Kid Outdoors" Initiative, in its fourth year, serves as a hopeful response to the growing concerns of children spending excessive time in front of screens, contributing to the emergence of "Nature deficit disorder." With American children averaging five to eight hours daily on digital devices, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between children and the natural world.

Project Impact 180, a pivotal component of this initiative, addresses the issue by providing non-digital alternatives and organizing monthly outdoor trips for groups of up to 25 youth. Recognizing the importance of reconnecting children with nature, these trips offer transformative experiences that extend beyond traditional digital engagements.

The program embraces a diverse range of activities to engage the youth, including family nights, hiking, camping, creative writing, painting, rock climbing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting. By incorporating such a variety of outdoor experiences, Project Impact 180 aims to instill a sense of appreciation and understanding of the natural world, fostering a healthier balance between screen time and outdoor activities.

In the face of the national crisis of children’s disconnection from nature, the "Every Kid Outdoors" Initiative, through Project Impact 180, strives to make a positive impact on the lives of youth by providing them with opportunities to explore, learn, and develop in the great outdoors.

Project Title: Future Leaders Of the World (FLOW)
Project Description:

Youth and young adults are at significant risk for experiencing human trafficking, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), suicide prevention and substance abuse. Engaging youth and young adults as peer educators is critical in addressing such health disparities. The literature supports peer education as an effective strategy for shifting attitudes and health behaviors among this priority population. Future Leaders of the World (FLOW) adopts this approach to recruit middle, high school, and college students across S. Florida to become part of the solution to many of these problems’ adults have left them with. Future Leaders Of the World (FLOW) is a new educational tool in empowering youth to combat many of the health disparities that affect themselves and their communities. FLOW’s concept is to work with a group of students, teach them certain health topics and then create powerful short stories. The students then work on script development so their 6-page short gets produced into a professional film. That film- complete with a lesson guide- is then shared with parents, educators and more importantly, their peers. Another key component of FLOW is to prepare each youth participant with a path to employment.
This project is spearheaded by one of our key-partners in Miami-Dade County: On the Move Productions, LLC ( www.onthemoveproductions.com ) who’s mentor and executive producer is David Frankel (pro.imdb.com/name/nm0291205/).
For twenty years, On the Move Productions has invested its time into life-changing projects. Based in South Florida, where many health disparities continue to be a growing problem (ranks 2nd in sex-trafficking cases, ranks 1st in HIV infection rates), On the Move Productions works with its community partners and educators to bring sensitive health topics to the fore front.
We are respectfully requesting funds of $10,000 for a 12-month period. We have funds to shoot the film.

Project Title: 2023-24 USA Climbing Nationals
Project Description:

Project Good is an Ohio-based, grassroots non-profit with the goal of supporting youth athletes in the sport of climbing. We have 30 athletes on our roster, of which 21 are competing in the Divisional Championship this weekend (2/9-2/11).

This grant would allow us to send enough coaches to support our athletes at the height of their competition season. In the sport of climbing athletes are required to be in isolation in the period of time leading up to their performance. Coaches with the correct certifications, are allowed to accompany the athletes in the isolation room prior to competing. Having a coach allows for the athletes to properly warm up and hone in on the headspace needed for high pressure situations, which leads to better outcomes.

Our team of coaches have all of the necessary certifications and requirements needed to accompany our athletes in isolation, as well as a combined total of 50+ years of experience across 6 coaches on our staff.

Project Milestones:
2/10-2/11 Attend USAC Divisionals
2/14-6/30 Complete Rope Season
6/17 Complete Travel Plans for USAC Nationals
7/6-7/14 USAC Youth Nationals*

Project Budget Details (for the week of Nationals):
$4000 – Total coaches’ stipend
$4000 – Total coaches’ travel

Project Title: Mental Health, Mentorship, and DANCE
Project Description:

This project will address the current mental health needs of youth utilizing dance as therapy. To address these needs, we will conduct several "Dance Therapy Workshops" using movement as a means of emotional release. A Dance Therapist will be contracted to conduct the workshops. The sessions will combine the elements of dance and therapy principles to promote emotional, physical, and mental well-being. This form of expressive therapy uses movement and dance as a means of communication and self-discovery, allowing the youth to explore and process their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a supportive environment.

In addition to the workshops, we will assign mentors that will meet with our youth in person, weekly providing a space where there is accountability and constant communication. These mentors will also be available for calls and virtual meetings in addition to the in person meets. The goal is to improve the overall mental health of our youth, evidenced by a change in behavior, how they communicate, what they communicate, and their actions.

Our goal through the project is to see better social connection and communication skills, improved emotional expression, and enhanced self esteem and confidence.
