Project Title: The Center for Miracles Clinic for Abused and Neglected Children
Project Description:

Since 2006, the Center for Miracles, serves children in the who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse or neglect. This clinic is the only of its kind in a hospital/medical setting, overseen by the only board-certified pediatric child abuse physicians in our region. The Center serves within Region 08 of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services covering an expansive network of 28 counties. In calendar year 2023, the Center for Miracles treated or reviewed the cases of 3,525 abused and
neglected children. The Center works to ensure that the most vulnerable children – those too young or too scared to speak for themselves – are appropriately addressed in a hospital clinic setting for signs of maltreatment or with injuries or conditions that may be caused by abuse or neglect.
The care and treatment of abused and neglected children at the Center is a highly collaborative process for each child’s recovery. Every child receives a treatment plan that is reviewed weekly. The Center works with parents and guardians to guide them through the treatment program and process to ensure the child has a supportive
environment. The center receives referrals and collaborates with groups including Child Protective Services, San Antonio Police Department, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. Outcomes are measured based upon the number of
children who are helped to move from the trauma of an abusive or neglectful situation, through criminal prosecution when directed by law enforcement, or into therapy for long-term recovery. Funds will support the clinic staff
for the 2024-2025 year. We rely on philanthropy to provide the funds necessary to sustain this program. In 2021, the Texas legislative session’s decision to eliminate funding for the 11 child abuse centers across Texas, has caused an annual funding reduction of $300,000 for the Center.

Project Title: Investing in a Child’s Future – Because Every Child Deserves a Place to Call Home
Project Description:

Since 1996 we have been investing in children’s future through a shelter program and transitional housing. This program is not only a compassionate endeavor but a strategic move for the community. Preventing family homelessness is paramount, especially considering the profound educational challenges that homeless children face. Research indicates that they are three times more likely to require special education, eight to nine times more likely to repeat grades, and 42% more likely to drop out of school at least once. The gravity of these challenges is further highlighted by the alarming statistics: seven times more likely to attempt suicide, and 47% suffer from anxiety, depression, or withdrawal.
The educational impact extends to their future prospects, with homeless youth being 20% less likely to graduate high school. This not only affects individual lives but has broader implications for the community, resulting in lower tax contributions and increased reliance on public services. The economic toll is significant, with each high school dropout contributing to an estimated net negative of $127,000.
Addressing homelessness early is not only a moral imperative, prioritizing the well-being of our children, but it is also a strategic investment in community health. Our shelter program is designed to go beyond providing a physical space; it includes ensuring that children have access to educational resources, tailored support, and maintaining continuity in their education during their shelter stay. This holistic approach aims not only to break the cycle of homelessness for the family but also to empower children with the tools they need for a brighter and more stable future.

Project Title: Camp for All: Out door & Marine Education & Recreation for Underserved Youth in Los Angeles
Project Description:

The Children’s Lifesaving Foundation invites LAUSD students who come from very low-income neighborhoods (and, often experiencing actual homelessness-living in motels and vans near their elementary school) to a wonderful Camp for All summer camp program in Los Angeles each summer. Camp for All has been in operation since 1993. Over 650 underserved youth are served through Camp for All each summer. These young individuals belong to one of the most underserved populations in L.A., and Camp for All serves as a lifeline, offering an essential, enriching, outdoor educational experience most parents cannot afford to provide their families. This program truly addresses the critical need of providing an unparalleled opportunity for underserved youth in Los Angeles. It offers an escape from the confines of their urban environment, delivering fulfilling, innovatively educational, confidence-lifting, recreational, and highly memorable summer experiences.
Operating March through August each year, the CLF’s Camp for All Summer Camp Program has benefited over 75,000 Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and underserved campers since its inception. The program encompasses Wilderness Day Camps in the picturesque Santa Monica Mountains, featuring classic camp activities intertwined with Chumash lessons and educational nature hikes. Additionally, our Surf Camps at Zuma Beach, led by Surf Therapists and pro surfers, instill a love and respect for the ocean, complemented by a robust and enjoyable marine educational component. Field trips to the Big Heart Ranch for animal therapy and the Malibu Lagoon for marine education and ocean conservation lessons round out this vital program.
Taking place across four stunning locations on the Malibu coast and in Calabasas, CA, our campers—all of whom attend free-of-charge—are immersed in a transformative experience. Our partner agencies are also invited to participate at no cost. The CLF’s Camp for All Summer Camp Program stands as a testament to our commitment to uplifting the lives of those who need it the most, providing a beacon of hope, education, and joy amidst challenging circumstances.

Project Title: Career Success at Radford University
Project Description:

The JA Career Success at Radford Project provides an enriching educational experience for high school students interested in entrepreneurship, particularly those from rural communities in Southwest Virginia. Leveraging the Junior Achievement (JA) Connect Career and Work Readiness curriculum, this school-day-long field trip to Radford University offers workshops designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge necessary to embark on their career journey or initiate their own business ventures. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to explore the Radford University campus, enhancing their understanding of higher education opportunities.

The primary objective of JA Career Success at Radford is to inspire and prepare students from rural communities for future career pathways in entrepreneurship, whatever their passion may be. Now in it’s second year, this project bridges the opportunity gap many rural students face by providing them with initital exposure to an institution of higher education.

We are seeking a grant of $8,000 to support the continuation of this popular program in the 2024-2025 year. This funding will cover essential expenses including transportation costs for students from rural communities in Southwest Virginia to Radford University, workshop materials, cafeteria/lunch costs, and administrative expenses.

With the support of this grant, we anticipate reaching 200 high school students from rural communities in Southwest Virginia. Through hands-on workshops and campus tours, students will continue to gain valuable insights into entrepreneurship and career readiness, as well as the opportunity to make connections at Radford University. By investing in this project, you will not only be empowering young minds with practical skills but also breaking down barriers to higher education and fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within underserved communities.
Your investment in this initiative will have a lasting impact on the lives of students, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the workforce and contribute to the economic prosperity of their communities. We sincerely hope you will consider supporting our endeavor with a grant of $8,000. Thank you for your consideration.
