Project Title: Youth Housing Demonstration Program
Project Description:

HHSI is seeking support for its Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP), which serves young people experiencing homelessness in the greater Quad Cities area. This initiative is designed to strengthen a coordinated system of prevention, intervention, and long-term housing support tailored specifically to the unique needs of youth.
Young people experiencing homelessness often face significant barriers, including lack of stable income, limited access to education and employment, and disconnection from supportive networks. Through YHDP, HHSI works to address these challenges by providing individualized, youth-centered services that prioritize stability, safety, and long-term success.
Funding will support outreach, navigation, and housing-focused services that help youth quickly move from crisis situations into safe and stable living environments. Participants receive assistance with basic needs, connections to community resources, and ongoing support to build life skills, pursue education or employment, and maintain housing.
HHSI collaborates closely with community partners to ensure a comprehensive approach, leveraging local resources and incorporating input from youth with lived experience to shape programming. This project emphasizes accessibility and low barriers to entry, ensuring that young people can engage in services without unnecessary obstacles.
By investing in YHDP, you will help create meaningful pathways out of homelessness for vulnerable youth, reducing long-term instability and strengthening the overall health of the community.

Project Title: Life Skills Support for Foster Youth
Project Description:

Young adults with foster care experience often enter adulthood without stable housing, financial support, or consistent guidance. Many are expected to manage employment, budgeting, and daily responsibilities on their own for the first time, placing them at high risk for instability.

The Life Leadership Academy provides direct support through a six-week, in-person program serving 30 foster youth ages 18 to 21 in Los Angeles County. Participants attend weekly sessions focused on financial literacy, job readiness, communication, and essential life skills needed for independence.

Youth receive hands-on support in creating resumes, practicing interviews, and learning how to manage income and expenses. The program also provides stipends, helping participants meet immediate needs and participate consistently.

A key component of the program is consistent adult guidance. Participants work closely with facilitators and mentors who provide structure, accountability, and support. This helps youth follow through on goals and navigate challenges they may otherwise face alone.

After completing the program, participants remain connected to She Ready Foundation and continue to access support, resources, and referrals.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will support participant stipends and essential program materials for one cohort of 30 foster youth.

Total Project Budget: 105,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Individual donor contributions, annual fundraising events, and foundation support, including past funding from the SNAP Foundation, LA County District 3 Community Grant, Los Angeles Community Impact Arts Grant, and the LA County Arts and Culture Grant. Additional grant funding is pending to support continued program delivery.

Project Title: Future Builders: Youth Academic & Life Skills Empowerment Program
Project Description:

The Future Builders: Youth Academic & Life Skills Empowerment Program is a targeted, evidence-informed initiative designed to improve academic achievement and long-term outcomes for underserved youth in Wake and Franklin Counties. Many of the students we serve face barriers including limited access to tutoring, inadequate digital resources, and unstable learning environments, placing them at risk of falling behind academically.

This program provides structured after-school support through a combination of individualized tutoring, small-group instruction, and academic enrichment focused on literacy, numeracy, and core subject mastery. To address the digital divide, participants receive access to essential learning materials and technology that support consistent engagement and academic progress.

In addition to academic support, the program integrates life skills development, equipping youth with critical competencies such as goal setting, time management, communication, and problem-solving. This dual-focus approach strengthens both academic performance and personal development, preparing students for long-term success.

The program also incorporates family engagement to reinforce learning at home and improve student accountability, as well as transportation support to ensure equitable access and consistent participation.

Expected outcomes include measurable improvements in academic performance, increased school attendance, and enhanced student confidence and engagement. By strengthening both educational and life skills foundations, the program positions youth to successfully transition into higher education, vocational pathways, and productive, independent adulthood.

Project Title: Expanding Access to Free Meals and Youth Development Programming for Underserved Children
Project Description:

Reconstructing Youth Foundation (RYF) is a Georgia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to supporting children and youth through free meal access, academic support, after-school and summer programming, and community-based enrichment. We currently partner with over 21 schools across multiple counties in Georgia Many of whom come from low-income and underserved communities.

Through our work, we see firsthand how food insecurity, limited access to academic resources, poor nutrition, and the lack of safety and structured environments outside of school hours affect students. For some, the meal they receive through our program is one of the most consistent parts of their day. We regularly encounter students who rely on our program not just for academic support, but for encouragement, stability, and a sense that someone is showing up for them.

RYF’s program is designed to meet these needs in a consistent and meaningful way. In addition to providing free meals, we incorporate basic nutrition awareness and healthy habits into our programming to help students better understand the importance of fueling their bodies and maintaining overall wellness. Students also receive academic assistance, enrichment activities, and opportunities to build confidence and life skills.

Funding will help us continue and expand this work by covering the cost of meals, educational materials, program supplies, and transportation. This support allows us to reach more students and ensure that those we serve have access to the resources, support, and consistency they need every day.

Total Project Budget: $50,000
