Project Title: Future Builders: Youth Academic & Life Skills Empowerment Program
Project Description:
The Future Builders: Youth Academic & Life Skills Empowerment Program is a targeted, evidence-informed initiative designed to improve academic achievement and long-term outcomes for underserved youth in Wake and Franklin Counties. Many of the students we serve face barriers including limited access to tutoring, inadequate digital resources, and unstable learning environments, placing them at risk of falling behind academically.
This program provides structured after-school support through a combination of individualized tutoring, small-group instruction, and academic enrichment focused on literacy, numeracy, and core subject mastery. To address the digital divide, participants receive access to essential learning materials and technology that support consistent engagement and academic progress.
In addition to academic support, the program integrates life skills development, equipping youth with critical competencies such as goal setting, time management, communication, and problem-solving. This dual-focus approach strengthens both academic performance and personal development, preparing students for long-term success.
The program also incorporates family engagement to reinforce learning at home and improve student accountability, as well as transportation support to ensure equitable access and consistent participation.
Expected outcomes include measurable improvements in academic performance, increased school attendance, and enhanced student confidence and engagement. By strengthening both educational and life skills foundations, the program positions youth to successfully transition into higher education, vocational pathways, and productive, independent adulthood.
