Requested Amount: 10,000

Project Title: Equipping Learning Spaces for Growing Students.
Project Description:

Onward Christian Academy is a K–12 hybrid Christian school serving families in Central Virginia. Our mission is to partner with parents to cultivate students who grow academically, spiritually, and in servant leadership.

In recent years, our school has experienced steady growth as more families seek faith-centered education. However, due to rising facility costs and several relocations, our classrooms currently operate with limited and aging resources. As we continue serving students during this period of transition, we are working to ensure that their academic experience remains strong, stable, and well-equipped.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation would support the Equipping Learning Spaces for Student Growth project, which will provide essential classroom resources that directly impact student learning. These include student Chromebooks with a secure charging cart for high school classes, durable classroom tables and desks to replace worn furniture, and stackable chairs for the art program to allow flexible learning environments.

These resources will allow teachers to better support instruction, technology-based learning, and creative expression while serving students from kindergarten through high school. By providing reliable tools for learning, this project will strengthen daily classroom experiences and help students reach their full academic potential.

Ultimately, this investment will ensure that students have the practical tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed as we continue building a stable educational future for the families we serve.
This project will directly benefit 420 students ages 5-18 by providing tools of learning, enabling them to be equipped to reach their fullest potential.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 3/10/2026
Requested Amount: $10,000

Project Title: Art Enrichment Program
Project Description:

Sound Child Care Solutions (SCCS) humbly seeks $10,000 from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to help sustain our critical Art Enrichment Program, led by art specialist and long-time early learning educator Sandra Floyd. Through intentional, developmentally appropriate art experiences, Sandra encourages children to engage in creative exploration that strengthens both social-emotional and academic growth. SCCS’s Art Enrichment Project fosters confidence, perseverance, and collaboration. In an inclusive environment, children across the consortium learn to share materials, communicate ideas, and celebrate one another’s differences—skills that are essential for kindergarten readiness and long-term academic success. For many children participating in this program, art has become a powerful tool for expression when words are still developing.

SCCS, Seattle’s first early learning shared services consortium, is committed to eliminating the opportunity gap between children who have consistent access to high-quality, culturally responsive early education and those who do not, disparities that disproportionately impact children of color and families experiencing financial insecurity. Through our innovative model, SCCS strengthens both educational quality and children’s social-emotional development. SCCS is among the largest providers contracted with the Department of Early Learning’s Seattle Preschool Program (SPP), and a leader in the shared services space, delivering high-quality early learning services to more than 450 children across 10 center locations throughout King County.

Because of our comprehensive model, we can prioritize and integrate critical enrichment initiatives that deepen learning and development, including art. Research consistently demonstrates that high-quality art enrichment supports children with complex needs and experiences of trauma by promoting emotional regulation, self-expression, executive functioning, and resilience. By embedding enrichment within the classroom, SCCS ensures that creativity and healing are not supplemental, but essential components of education. Sustained access to high-quality art instruction is critical in early learning settings, ensuring every child experiences creativity as a pathway to joyful learning.

Total Project Budget: $65,000—Our total budget covers all costs associated with the project, including materials, distribution, transportation, and labor.

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): SCCS respectfully requests that The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Foundation support 16% of the total project budget. The Sound Child Care Solutions Central Office has committed 54% of the project budget through existing Employee Retention Credit funds, while the remaining 30% is confirmed through investments from individual SCCS Chapters.

Project Title: S.T.E.M. Bridge Builders
Project Description:

The STEM Bridge Builders Summer Camp is an 8-week educational program designed to engage 30 students ages 10–14 in hands-on STEM learning, literacy enrichment, and career exploration. The camp will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing structured academic instruction and experiential learning opportunities that help prevent summer learning loss while building foundational STEM and workforce skills.
The program integrates three hours of daily academic instruction focused on STEM concepts and summer reading to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and problem-solving skills. Students will participate in project-based learning activities including bridge design and construction, robotics, coding, and basic circuitry experiments. Through these activities, students learn engineering principles, design thinking, and teamwork while applying math and science concepts in real-world scenarios.

A key component of the program is career exploration through pre-apprenticeship exposure to skilled trades. Licensed professionals in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and air-conditioning will lead demonstrations and interactive sessions to introduce students to practical applications of STEM in construction and technical careers. These sessions help students understand how academic knowledge connects to high-demand workforce pathways.

The program will also include educational field trips that provide real-world exposure to STEM environments such as engineering sites, trade training centers, or science-focused institutions. These experiences reinforce classroom learning and broaden students’ understanding of career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and skilled trades.

Students will document their learning through engineering journals and collaborate in teams to design and build model bridges using low-cost materials. At the end of the program, participants will present their projects during a Parent and Community STEM Showcase.

Through this comprehensive approach, the program strengthens academic engagement, expands STEM access, and introduces youth to future education and career pathways.

Project Title: Foundations for the Future: Early Literacy at Mosdos Chinuch of Hollywood
Project Description:

Mosdos Chinuch of Hollywood (MCH) is an Orthodox Jewish elementary school serving the growing Jewish community of Broward County. Our mission is to provide students with a strong foundation in both Torah values and academic excellence, nurturing children who are knowledgeable, compassionate, and prepared for lifelong learning. As our school continues to grow, we remain committed to strengthening the academic foundations that support each child’s long-term success.

MCH is seeking support to enhance literacy and foundational learning opportunities for our early elementary students. The early years of education are critical for developing strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills that will support students throughout their academic careers. Our project focuses on expanding literacy resources, strengthening classroom instruction, and equipping teachers with tools that allow them to better meet the needs of diverse learners.

By investing in early literacy development, we aim to ensure that every student builds the strong academic foundation necessary for future success.

Beyond academic growth, this initiative also supports the broader mission of MCH by helping students grow into thoughtful, capable individuals who are deeply connected to their Jewish values and community. Project Title: Theatre for Students with Disabilities
Project Description:

CCTA’s Mission is to educate through the arts by creating theatrical experiences that “inspire thought, action, creativity, and change”. CCTA is dedicated to making these experiences available and accessible to as many members of the community as possible with an emphasis on teaching and nurturing our children regardless of gender, race, religion, ability, age, or socioeconomic status.
To help us achieve this mission we offer programs for students with disabilities free of charge. Our Brightlights on Broadway sessions work with students ages 6-16 and our New Horizons works with students over 16. Our staff uses musical theatre as a vehicle for students to work on social skills, improve communication, and build community. Our lead instructor for this is also a licensed occupational therapist. She blends her theatre experience with research based practices to create the best environment for our students to succeed.
This program has been operating for more than 10 years. It attracts more than 50 students each season, many of whom return year after year. One parent shared, “our daughter has Down Syndrome…the students in the program benefit from her [the teacher’s] background in occupational therapy and I have seen my daughter’s speech and confidence improve.” Keeping these programs operating comes out to just under $40,000 each year. We are working to diversify our funding sources, so that we can continue to offer these programs free of charge to our community.
