Proposal Information

Today’s Date: March 13, 2026
Requested Amount: 5,000.00

Project Title: Access, Belonging, and Opportunity for Every Girl
Project Description:

This proposal seeks funding to provide program scholarships and translation services that remove financial and language barriers to participation in Girls on the Run of Dayton programming. This support will ensure that girls of all backgrounds and abilities across our five-county region can access a program that builds confidence, promotes healthy habits, and strengthens social-emotional skills.

Girls on the Run of Dayton serves girls in grades 3–8 across Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, and Preble counties through an evidence-based curriculum that combines physical activity with lessons focused on confidence, decision-making, empathy, and healthy relationships. Participants meet twice per week in small teams led by trained volunteer coaches, building skills that support emotional well-being, leadership, and positive peer connections. Each season concludes with a celebratory community 5K event that reinforces goal-setting, perseverance, and teamwork.

However, financial constraints and language barriers can prevent many girls and families from fully participating. Scholarships ensure that program fees do not limit access for girls from families facing financial hardship. Translation services allow families with limited English proficiency to fully engage with program materials, registration, and communication from coaches and staff. These services also support the translation of the program’s “Grown-Up Guide,” which helps caregivers reinforce social-emotional learning themes and healthy habits at home.

With this support, Girls on the Run of Dayton will serve approximately 1,100 girls annually, with a strong focus on increasing access for underserved families. At least 90% of participants report increased confidence, a stronger sense of belonging, and improved peer relationships through post-program surveys.

By removing financial and language barriers, this project will ensure that more girls across our region can benefit from programming that strengthens resilience, promotes physical activity, and equips them with skills that support success in school, relationships, and throughout their lives.

Project Title: The healing motherhood project
Project Description:

The Healing Motherhood Project is a 6-week transformational program designed to support mothers in healing from trauma while strengthening their ability to build healthy relationships with their children. Many mothers in underserved communities carry unresolved trauma, stress, and systemic barriers that impact their parenting and family stability. This program creates a safe and supportive space for mothers to reflect, heal, and gain practical tools that foster healthier homes and stronger families.

Each week focuses on critical themes including self-awareness, emotional regulation, breaking generational cycles, communication, and building positive parenting strategies. Participants engage in guided discussions, journaling, goal-setting, and peer support while learning practical skills that can immediately improve their relationships with their children.

The program will be facilitated by trained mentors and community leaders and will include guest speakers such as mothers who have successfully overcome adversity and become leaders in their communities.

The Healing Motherhood Project not only focuses on parenting techniques but prioritizes the healing of the mother first. When mothers heal, families become stronger and communities benefit. Participants will complete the program with a certificate of completion, access to continued mentorship, and resources to help sustain long-term growth.

This initiative aims to reduce family conflict, strengthen parent-child relationships, and empower mothers to lead healthier and more stable lives.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 3/12/2026
Requested Amount: 5,000

Project Title: Nature Connection & Experiential Education (NCEE)
Project Description:

Wild Earth’s mission is to ignite transformative connections through wisdom rooted in the natural world.

Research documents the benefits of outdoor play, including increases in physical well-being, mental and emotional development, and academic outcomes. However, on average American youth ages 8-17 spend less than 7 minutes a day engaged in outdoor play and over 7.5 hours in front of an electronic screen.

For ten years Wild Earth has collaborated with school districts in Kingston and Ellenville, NY to provide the Nature Connection and Experiential Education (NCEE) project, fostering social and emotional learning for students through nature-based guided recess experiences. During the 2026-2027 school year, NCEE will serve over 2,500 students across these two districts. The program focuses on supporting both students and the adults who work with them:
• Guided Recess: Wild Earth staff mentors work in each school on a weekly basis to offer all students a range of optional, choice-based activities designed to promote team building, healthy risk taking, access to nature, and a constructive outlet for students’ midday energy. Each week features a rotating selection of nature-based activities, including a hands-on touch table, crafts, books and field guides, and fast-moving group games. Through these activities staff work to connect with students to build trust and rapport.
• Monitor Engagement: Wild Earth also provides professional development for school recess monitors based on Wild Earth’s Coaching Concepts developed through twenty years of programming. Through workshops and monthly coaching sessions, Wild Earth leaders support school staff to provide continuity in mentored outdoor recess activities throughout the school year.

A $5,000 grant from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will support guided recess and monitor engagement throughout the academic year to benefit more than 2,500 students in grades K-8, providing the sense of connection and belonging for students to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Total Project Budget: $350,064 (current year 2025-2026 NCEE budget)

Project Title: Youth Power Lab
Project Description:

The Youth Power Lab (YPL) is Washington Ethnic Studies Now’s (WAESN) newest statewide initiative, designed to build a coordinated network of youth leaders (ages 12–21) advancing Ethnic Studies in K–12 education. While Washington’s youth are already testifying before legislators and shaping policy, they often lack the sustained infrastructure to maintain this leadership across policy cycles. The YPL addresses this gap by transforming volunteer advocacy into a community-rooted leadership pipeline.
Rooted in WAESN’s multigenerational, majority POC-led mission, the Lab positions young people—particularly those most impacted by educational inequities—as strategists and educators. Through a dedicated Youth Coordinator and near-peer mentorship from recent graduates, participants receive structured training in civic and technology literacy, advocacy, and curriculum development.
Throughout the program, youth leaders will:
Design and facilitate community education sessions.
Lead intergenerational forums and statewide campaigns to counter misinformation.
Directly influence local and state policy through testimony and district-level organizing.
The Lab’s structure is intentionally intergenerational; youth leaders hold equal decision-making power in WAESN’s governance, ensuring they are not just participants, but co-architects of systemic change. By resourcing the leadership of young people, the YPL moves Ethnic Studies from the classroom into collective action, creating a sustainable model for youth civic engagement across Washington State.

Requested Amount: 5000

Project Title: Youth Sports Alliance Active Afterschool
Project Description:

The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) seeks $5,000 to support the expansion of our Active Afterschool programs in the Salt Lake Valley, increasing access to healthy, screen-free activities for youth who face barriers to sports and recreation.

For more than 20 years, YSA has introduced youth to sports and healthy activities through nationally recognized afterschool programs that inspire lifelong physical activity. Through a unique community collaboration, YSA provides access to more than 50 activities for 1st–12th grade students. Programs include cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, climbing, photography, performing arts, and other enrichment activities that promote teamwork, build confidence, and encourage healthy lifestyles.

Building on this proven model, YSA has launched programming in the Salt Lake Valley, serving schools from Ogden to Orem, with most new programs concentrated in Salt Lake City School District schools and Wallace Stegner Academy. In our first year in the Salt Lake Valley, more than 500 students have already participated in YSA programs.

Local data shows that 78% of youth exceed recommended screen time while only 30% meet daily physical activity guidelines. Many families also face financial barriers limiting access to organized sports and outdoor recreation.

YSA works to remove these barriers by providing financial assistance, transportation, equipment, and essential gear. Programs typically become financially self-sustaining within three years, except for financial assistance for students who qualify.

Funding will support continued program expansion and ensure more Salt Lake Valley youth have access to active, healthy afterschool opportunities.

Today’s Date: 03/11/2026
Requested Amount: 8,979.34

Project Title: Technology Infrastructure Improvements for Youth Educational Enrichment
Project Description:

The Children’s Home of Kingston (CHK) serves an all-male population, ages 10-21 who are experiencing difficulties in the community. We are located on 4+ acres in the small city of Kingston, New York. CHK is a therapeutic community for boys who have been shaped by trauma. Each arrives with a complex and most often heartbreaking history. Our boys arrive with deep emotional wounds, developmental delays, learning disabilities, and mental health diagnoses. Traditional mental health and/or developmental models often are unable to meet their needs. When school districts, social services, or courts have been unsuccessful with meeting the youth’s needs; they are then referred to special education schools like CHK.
CHK seeks funding from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to help establish a modern 10 station computer laboratory. The lab would be equipped with 10 curved display desktop units with wired keyboards and mouse, 10 chairs: 8 ft. conference tables, 1 minicomputer and workstation laptop, a camera, educational software, streaming mixer etc.

This computer lab will address a critical infrastructure gap: outdated and insufficient technology across our academic and residential programs. As a licensed residential treatment center and special education provider, CHK must deliver instruction and care that is both trauma-informed and responsive to diverse learning needs

Our current devices are incompatible with modern educational platforms. This limits our educators’ ability to provide effective, individualized instruction and prevents our students from gaining digital skills that are essential for educational success and future employment. It also creates learning environments that lack engagement, flexibility, and accessibility for students with unique emotional and special education needs.

With the help of the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation, CHK can provide a modern, supportive and engaging learning environment that will give them the tools necessary for a more productive future.
