Project Title: Youth Sports Alliance Active Afterschool
Project Description:

The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) seeks $5,000 to support the expansion of our Active Afterschool programs in the Salt Lake Valley, increasing access to healthy, screen-free activities for youth who face barriers to sports and recreation.

For more than 20 years, YSA has introduced youth to sports and healthy activities through nationally recognized afterschool programs that inspire lifelong physical activity. Through a unique community collaboration, YSA provides access to more than 50 activities for 1st–12th grade students. Programs include cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, climbing, photography, performing arts, and other enrichment activities that promote teamwork, build confidence, and encourage healthy lifestyles.

Building on this proven model, YSA has launched programming in the Salt Lake Valley, serving schools from Ogden to Orem, with most new programs concentrated in Salt Lake City School District schools and Wallace Stegner Academy. In our first year in the Salt Lake Valley, more than 500 students have already participated in YSA programs.

Local data shows that 78% of youth exceed recommended screen time while only 30% meet daily physical activity guidelines. Many families also face financial barriers limiting access to organized sports and outdoor recreation.

YSA works to remove these barriers by providing financial assistance, transportation, equipment, and essential gear. Programs typically become financially self-sustaining within three years, except for financial assistance for students who qualify.

Funding will support continued program expansion and ensure more Salt Lake Valley youth have access to active, healthy afterschool opportunities.
