Project Title: Technology Infrastructure Improvements for Youth Educational Enrichment
Project Description:
The Children’s Home of Kingston (CHK) serves an all-male population, ages 10-21 who are experiencing difficulties in the community. We are located on 4+ acres in the small city of Kingston, New York. CHK is a therapeutic community for boys who have been shaped by trauma. Each arrives with a complex and most often heartbreaking history. Our boys arrive with deep emotional wounds, developmental delays, learning disabilities, and mental health diagnoses. Traditional mental health and/or developmental models often are unable to meet their needs. When school districts, social services, or courts have been unsuccessful with meeting the youth’s needs; they are then referred to special education schools like CHK.
CHK seeks funding from the Hermanowski Foundation to help establish a modern 10 station computer laboratory. The lab would be equipped with 10 curved display desktop units with wired keyboards and mouse, 10 chairs: 8 ft. conference tables, 1 minicomputer and workstation laptop, a camera, educational software, streaming mixer etc.
This computer lab will address a critical infrastructure gap: outdated and insufficient technology across our academic and residential programs. As a licensed residential treatment center and special education provider, CHK must deliver instruction and care that is both trauma-informed and responsive to diverse learning needs
Our current devices are incompatible with modern educational platforms. This limits our educators’ ability to provide effective, individualized instruction and prevents our students from gaining digital skills that are essential for educational success and future employment. It also creates learning environments that lack engagement, flexibility, and accessibility for students with unique emotional and special education needs.
With the help of the Hermanowski Foundation, CHK can provide a modern, supportive and engaging learning environment that will give them the tools necessary for a more productive future.
