Project Title: Academic Success
Project Description:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley’s Academic Success Program offers youth ages 6 to18 with the tools and support they need to succeed academically, after graduation, and while leading a healthy lifestyle. Many of our members face barriers such as poverty, limited access to technology, or lack of academic resources. Our Clubs create safe, structured, and nurturing environments where caring mentors help young people build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and reach their full potential.
Through daily homework help, tutoring, literacy, and STEM enrichment, members develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities while discovering a love of learning. Project-based activities connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences, helping youth gain the knowledge and motivation to take ownership of their education. Our close partnerships with local schools ensure that Club programs align with academic goals and provide targeted support to students who need it most.
The program also emphasizes character development, leadership, and goal setting; key components that help youth thrive beyond the classroom. Teens participate in college and career readiness workshops, explore future professions, and gain practical skills such as résumé writing and interview preparation. Our goal is for more than 85% of teens to graduate on time, have a postsecondary plan, and feel prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.
By combining academic enrichment, mentoring, and future-focused guidance, the Academic Success Program empowers youth to see themselves as capable, resilient learners. Each year, over 1,600 Club members build the tools they need not only to succeed academically but also to thrive personally and professionally, enabling every young person to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens

Project Title: Rural Youth Rising: Building Confidence, Leadership, and Mental Wellness
Project Description:

The Allapattah Community Foundation, located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, is dedicated to empowering youth and families in rural and low-income communities through mentorship, athletics, and mental-wellness programming. We seek support for Rural Youth Rising, a one-year initiative that equips young people with the tools, confidence, and community connections needed to thrive.

Many youth in rural Florida experience isolation, limited access to positive role models, and few opportunities for personal growth. Rural Youth Rising directly addresses these barriers by providing structured sports training, mentorship, and life-skills workshops that promote emotional resilience and leadership. The program will serve 50–60 youth ages 13–18 from rural and small-town areas of St. Lucie County.

Participants will meet weekly for athletic and mentorship sessions focused on teamwork, discipline, and confidence-building. Monthly leadership and career-readiness workshops will introduce real-world skills such as communication, goal-setting, and financial literacy. Licensed facilitators will lead small-group wellness workshops addressing self-esteem, stress management, and healthy relationships.

Through partnerships with local schools, recreation centers, and small businesses, the Foundation will ensure equitable access to programming and sustainability. Each participant will be supported by trained mentors and have opportunities to contribute through community service projects.

By the end of the year, Rural Youth Rising aims to achieve measurable outcomes:

80% of participants reporting increased confidence and leadership ability.

70% improvement in mental-wellness indicators.

90% retention and consistent attendance across program activities.

Expanded collaboration with at least five rural community partners.

Funds from the Hermanowski Foundation will support mentor stipends, program materials, and transportation, ensuring all youth—regardless of income—can participate fully in this transformative program.

Our Art department would like to hold an Empty Bowls charity event that raises awareness and funds to combat hunger in local communities. It began in the early 1990s when art teachers and students created handmade ceramic bowls and hosted a simple meal to raise money for food-related charities. Many of our students and families live below the poverty line and this would be an excellent way students can support our most vulnerable populations through a creative endeavor.

Project Title: 1:1 Staffing for campers 21 and Under
Project Description:

Though I realize I am late with funding for the 2026 camp session, I would like to apply for the summer of 2027. Funding is requested to support our 1:1 staffing costs at Shady Oaks Camp. Each summer, we plan to have four, two-week sessions, and serve about 20 campers per session. Each 1:1 counselor costs approximately $4000 per summer. The amount includes salaries, international staff costs, and our high-quality, week-long training. Shady Oaks serves campers ages 5 and up, and currently we have 5 campers that are 21 and younger. During training week, our specially trained staff learn about lifting, transferring, sensitivity-training, sensory training, feeding, dressing and so much more! Funding will help us provide the high level of 1:1 care that our campers need.
Our campers enjoy pet therapy, talent shows, our therapeutic pool, sensory building, field trips and the standard camp activities of arts and crafts, BINGO, and of course, campfires!
Shady Oaks has been providing a summer camp experience since 1947. We have some campers that have been attending camp for 30 or more years! One camper over 50 years! The longevity of campers is a testimony to the level of care and fun we provide for each individual, summer after summer. One parent states: "Shady Oaks isn’t just about giving parents and caregivers a much-needed break, although that naturally happens. It’s about the timeless story of a boy who is coming of age and there have been hundreds of campers who experienced the same. Shady Oaks makes kids and adults like Joshua feel like they matter. Thank you, Shady Oaks Camp, for creating a special place where children like Joshua can shine brighter than the stars."
This request is to fund two, 1:1 staff members for campers 21 and under for the 2027 season.

Project Title: Water Wise Kids
Project Description:

For many children, a trip to the pool or beach is a summer rite of passage. For underprivileged kids, however, the life-saving skill of learning to swim is often out of reach due to financial barriers. Water Wise kids will be a water safety program dedicated to bridging this gap, providing scholarships for high-quality swimming lessons to local families in need. By partnering with local schools and rallying community support, we will give children the opportunity to build confidence and develop essential skills that could save their lives.
Drowning remains a leading cause of accidental death for young children, a silent and preventable tragedy. Hope Floats directly combats this statistic by making formal swim lessons—shown to reduce the risk of drowning by 88%—accessible to all. The program will go beyond teaching basic strokes; it will empower kids by helping them conquer fears, understand water hazards, and learn how to respond in emergencies.
The impact of Water Wise Kids will extend beyond the pool, as families gain peace of mind and children build self-esteem that will ripple into other areas of their lives. With the support of generous donors and community partners, we will change lives, one lesson at a time, ensuring that every child has the chance to learn how to float—and succeed—in and out of the water.

Project Title: Reading Assistance Program
Project Description:

Our FREE Reading Assistance Program (literacy intervention) is designed to support 2nd through 6th grade students who are reading at 2nd or 3rd grade level and are at risk of falling further behind. Reading proficiency by third grade is crucial as it marks the transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn,” making early intervention essential for academic success and long-term achievement.

Through small-group and 1-1 instruction focused on foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and writing, we aim to accelerate learning and build reading confidence to ensure students are prepared for academic success.

The goal is to increase reading proficiency and confidence in these struggling readers and help them meet or exceed grade-level expectations. By building strong literacy foundations, this program empowers students to fully engage with the curriculum, reduce the risk of future academic failure, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
