Project Title: Paving a road to HOPE
Project Description:

Grace Place School, a nonprofit organization based in Broward County, Florida, is dedicated to helping free South Florida’s youth from the grip of sex trafficking and other destructive lifestyles. Since its founding in 2014, the school has offered life-changing opportunities to at-risk teens, empowering them to achieve their full potential. Grace Place is designed specifically for youth who have faced trauma, unstable home environments, poverty, and homelessness—factors that make them especially vulnerable to exploitation.

The urgency of the school’s mission is highlighted by Broward County’s ranking as the highest in the state for human trafficking. To address these challenges, Grace Place offers tuition free year-round academic support along with an annual 6-week Summer Job Readiness and Business Development program. This initiative provides students with practical training in job and life skills, as well as guidance on starting and managing a small business. The program benefits 35 students, aged 13-18, including those referred by juvenile judges, probation officers, and other agencies.

As part of the program, students can earn up to $600 in wage incentives while building critical soft skills such as time management, teamwork, leadership, and communication. They participate in classes and work in Grace Place’s social enterprise, Stylin with Grace, where they create and sell t-shirts. Through this hands-on experience, students gain valuable work experience and confidence, setting them on a path toward a brighter future. Grace Place School remains committed to helping at-risk youth overcome adversity and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. Each year, we serve over 45 students, achieving a 95% graduation rate. Our small class sizes and high teacher-to-student ratio enable us to provide the individualized attention and support that each student—and their often single-parent families—needs. It’s not uncommon for us to serve multiple siblings within the same family. We are seeking funds to cover essential program costs such as teachers, job coach, curriculum, meals, technology, and supplies.

Total Project Budget: 350,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Committed $10,000 per month – Monthly Partners; CR Moore Legacy Foundation $50,000; Broward Sheriff’s Office $12,000

Project Title: Harmony Project KC
Project Description:

We kindly appeal to The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation for a $10,000 investment to bolster Northeast Community Center’s flagship program, Harmony Project KC. Your generous contribution will empower us to maintain our commitment to nurturing the talents of the 371 students we currently serve while expanding our reach to serve the 166+ children on our waitlist eagerly hoping for their chance to participate.

Your support plays a vital role in our mission to cultivate the next generation of talented musicians during the 2025-2026 school year and beyond. In 2023-24, Harmony Project KC (HPKC) provided access to the arts through intensive orchestral music education delivered through leveled instrument classes, ensemble rehearsals, chamber music programming, performance opportunities, private lessons, workshops, and music therapy.

To reduce barriers to arts access while providing safety during critical after-school hours, all HPKC programs are tuition-free for families.

Music is how children enter our doors, but once they are here, it is so much more. In a neighborhood with 25+ languages spoken, music is the universal language. Together, we are orchestrating a thriving community through access to music education and wraparound services including educational and supportive programs!
All HPKC students and families also have access to wraparound services, Path to College and Care Services. Path to College partners with students and their families (primarily first-opportunity college students) to achieve higher education and career goals. This includes individualized college guidance counseling, scholarship application support, college tours, career discernment and mentorship, and a guaranteed college scholarship for Harmony Project KC graduates of up to $8,000.
Through Care Services, a family advocacy and empowerment model, we offer programming and support responsive to family interests and needs. Programming includes a family assistance fund, financial and digital literacy classes, music therapy, on-site counseling, connections to partner agencies and more.

Requested Amount: 10,000

Project Title: Cleanse and Grow, An Education and Conservation Project
Project Description:

Bombay Beach Arts and Culture has a vision for a multimodal green space called “Cleanse and Grow,” an educational model for energy reuse and green living. This is one of many steps BBAC, and our community, is taking toward carbon offset and agricultural sustainability. Bombay Beach has recently seen an uptick in our population of young children, and spaces for them to play and learn are limited – BBAC built a center for The Kids Club on their property last year. Learning to grow and eat healthy food is an indispensable part of a child’s education.

Cleanse and Grow is a community initiative that is part public park, part garden, and part educational model. In this space, we will offer classes and volunteer opportunities, so that our local children have an opportunity to grow and care for the food they eat. It is the hope that this model of green living could be an educational resource for children outside of our community too – perhaps becoming a site for field trips, seminars, and educational conferences for schools and preservation societies.

We are applying for the installation of a Reed pond, which would filter gray water from washing clothes that would typically go to waste. After undergoing a filtration process, water would be directed towards a community garden. A community partner is interested in donating fish, primarily tilapia, which would be raised in the pond and harvested at the end of the summer for a large community fish fry. BBAC hosts community feasts every month, so this would make those events more sustainable and locally sourced. Bombay Beach is determined to invest in supplemental educational programs for our children as much as possible, and cultivating an interest in sustainability in our youth is critical.

Total Project Budget: 15,000

Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): BBAC, Community Stakeholders, additional Foundations/Grants

Project Duration: 6 months (model/experiment with a hope for sustainability)
