Project Title: E2L’s FIFTEEN Leadership and Life Skills Development Program
Project Description:

E2L is a Black-led organization founded in 1995 that strives to see a generation of diverse at-risk youth move beyond poverty to discover a positive direction in their lives and develop a plan to achieve a productive life. Our mission is to develop and empower Atlanta youth as emerging student leaders who will positively influence their families, schools, communities, and the world. E2L currently serves seven Title 1 schools in City of Atlanta and Fulton and Cobb counties. Graduation rates for these schools are as low as 69.3% compared to the state average of 84.4% and the nation’s almost 87%. A majority of E2L’s students will be the first in their families to pursue post-secondary education, thus breaking the multi-generational cycle of poverty.
E2L’s FIFTEEN program is an evidence-based program based on best practices from the National AfterSchool Association that empowers youth to prepare for their future in college and/or career. E2L has researched and developed a model-based curriculum, One Degree Curriculum, that engages and empowers students through activities that foster stability and creativity while providing these youth with the support and resources needed to strengthen and promote self-sufficiency and mental well-being. Through an almost three-year commitment, the FIFTEEN Program features strong links between education, training, and the job market; the use of positive youth development approaches; comprehensive support services; and support after programs end. Through our various program initiatives, FIFTEEN provides direct and integrated services to address the mental and psychological wellbeing, heart and physical health, educational success, financial literacy for individuals and families, and college/career opportunities of each of our youth. The goal of the FIFTEEN program is to support participants in graduating from high school with skills that will lead them to post-secondary education and self-sufficiency through leadership skills and re-engagement with the community.

Child sexual abuse calls have skyrocketed; we have had a 231% documented increase in sexual abuse.

Project Title: Yes, Chef! Culinary Camps
Project Description:

The “Yes, Chef! Culinary Camps” program empowers 100 low-income Chicago public high school students annually by providing them with culinary and life skills that prepare them for careers in the culinary industry, while also benefitting 500 family members. The program equips students with the vocational skills needed to pursue a positive career track and thrive both professionally and personally.

Through five culinary camps, students receive a high level of instruction by our professional chefs to provide them with the vocational training needed to secure jobs without college degrees, which many of our students can’t afford. Instead, we prepare students for employment at restaurants, catering and banquet companies, butcher shops, bakeries, and grocery store departments.

Our camps teach much more than recipes. Based on a carefully designed curriculum, students learn the necessary skills needed to land a job such as proper sanitation, knife skills, and meat fabrication. Woven into the training are lessons on nutrition (reading labels), budgeting (reusing ingredients), and food sensitivities (substitutions). They leave our camps with skills that many adults lack such as how to work with grains, using yeast to make breads, understanding sautéing and poaching, and how to store food at proper temperatures. Campers also learn life skills like learning to scale recipes, stretching a meal, and calculating calories and servings.

For many of our students, our camps are the first time they are cooking meals from scratch with fresh ingredients, moving them away from processed foods more commonly found in their homes, which helps them develop healthier eating habits. We also provide all ingredients and an essential take-home kitchen equipment kit worth $250+ of pots, knives, and other supplies for students to keep so they can continue cooking at home to the benefit of their families and strengthening the overall community.

Clay Day LBC’s mission is to bring free ceramics instruction to children in Long Beach, CA. Project Title: Art Club
Project Description:

HOBA House Community Arts Organization is seeking funding to support our free weekly Art Club, which primarily serves school-age children in Cloverport. As there is no art education program in the local school system, Art Club provides a critical creative outlet where young artists can explore different mediums, develop skills, and connect with peers under the guidance of trained artists. Unlike our structured classes, Art Club offers open-ended creative time, allowing students to work at their own pace.

Cloverport is a small, economically disadvantaged community where many families face financial barriers to extracurricular activities. To ensure accessibility, we provide all art supplies free of charge. Currently, we host 15 students weekly, but with an upcoming move to a larger space, we plan to expand to 20–25 students per session. Due to high demand, we also intend to introduce a second, teen-only session to better serve older youth.

To sustain and expand this vital program, we are requesting funding to replenish supplies and replace worn-out equipment. Items such as paints, brushes, sketchbooks, and sculpting tools require frequent restocking, and essential equipment like easels and tables need maintenance or replacement. A $5,000 grant would fully fund a year’s worth of supplies, but we can effectively utilize any amount to continue providing this free resource to our community.

By investing in Art Club, funders will help ensure accessible, high-quality arts programming that fosters creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. This program not only nurtures artistic talent but also provides a safe, positive space for youth to engage in meaningful activities. With continued support, HOBA can expand Art Club’s reach, making art accessible to more children and teens in Cloverport.

Project Title: Increasing Therapeutic Arts Programming for Philly Youth
Project Description:

ArtWell supports youth development through healing-centered arts education. We have 25 years of experience integrating arts into education, helping scholars with limited access to arts education develop social-emotional skills and explore their identities. We serve approximately 1,000 students across 18 sites.

ArtWell has four programs that run for 25 weeks over the school year and 6-8 weeks during summer:

1) We the Poets® (WTP): WTP is ArtWell’s longest-running program. The program uses the mediums of reading, discussing, writing, and performing poetry to nurture students’ ability to communicate and express themselves emotionally, while also enhancing their literacy skills and reading levels.

2) The Art of Growing Leaders® (AGL): AGL engages students in multidisciplinary art projects focused on social impact. Through guided collage, painting, mask-masking, and other art-based projects, students build communities of trust with one another while exploring their identities and aspirations. Students take inventory of their values and their unique qualities and learn how to leverage them in their community.

3) EcoArts® uses art, poetry, and reflection to engage youth in exploring and redefining what the “environment” means to them. The program invites students to reflect on how they can impact and care for their surroundings and how the environment can impact their lives and well-being. Participants use arts and poetry to imagine the world they want to live in and advocate for environmental sustainability.

Support from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will cover essential costs such as art supplies, teacher stipends, and trauma training for teaching artists.
