Project Title: Valley Symphony Orchestra 2024/25 Season
Project Description:

The Valley Symphony Orchestra’s (VSO) upcoming 2024-2025 programming, set at the esteemed McAllen Performing Arts Center, presents a season of cultural richness and diversity. Starting from November 2024 through April 2025, the lineup promises an array of classical favorites, family-oriented shows, including the highly anticipated A Touch of Frost holiday spectacle with the VSO Chorale, and a lively pops performance.

Beyond entertainment, our commitment extends to enriching the community by fostering creativity and inspiring the younger generation to embrace the arts. For over two decades, our Education Concerts have provided invaluable exposure to thousands of students, many of whom experience their first live orchestral performance through our program. Recent feedback indicates a significant impact on attendees, with the majority expressing their first-time attendance at both the McAllen Performing Arts Center and a professional live music event.

The new VSO Creative Youth Initiative aims to expand educational outreach in regional schools through innovative programming. Leveraging the expertise of bilingual educators within our orchestra, we strive to make arts education more accessible and engaging for our community’s youth.

Our Partners in Education program ensures access to our Masterworks concerts for high school students and their families at a reduced rate, thanks to the generous support of donors and sponsors. Additionally, initiatives like Educator and Student Rush Tickets offer discounted options, further democratizing access to our performances.

By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, the Valley Symphony Orchestra continues to serve as a cornerstone of cultural enrichment and community engagement in the McAllen and Rio Grande Valley area. We are dedicated to providing a platform for artistic expression and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts in our community.

Project Title: Teacher-Leader Institute
Project Description:

Through its flagship program, The Teacher Leader Institute (TLI), AATF provides monthly programming to meet the needs of aspiring and current teachers, ranging from pedagogical coaching to mental health services through local partnerships. The organization understands that teachers often face unique challenges and stressors serving students in the community. Therefore, providing holistic support that acknowledges and addresses these challenges is essential for their well-being and long-term sustainability in the profession. While necessary and a core part of our programming, professional development isn’t the sole solution to support educators. In addition to professional development, our organization provides mentoring, cohort-based community building, and access to mental health support through partnerships with community organizations. We also lead a focus on the development and reinforcement of 21st Century Skills. All of these skills are embedded throughout our workshops and sessions for participating educators. These skills include: communication, collaboration, creativity, technology, flexibility, professionalism, and productivity.

On a community level, the impact of this work is profound. Educators play a critical role in shaping the perspectives, skills, and futures of young people. By increasing the presence of educators, who often serve as role models, we’re contributing to a more inclusive and equitable learning environment. This can have lasting effects on students’ academic achievements and self-esteem thereby fostering a more vibrant and cohesive community.

Total Project Budget: $95,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): We have an existing grant from the Charlottesville Community Foundation, as well as an individual donation from an anonymous donor. These total $45,000. We have also applied for a supplemental grant for $20,000 from a local foundation.

The program is under the auspices of an pro early childhood education professional.

Children in grades 2-8 who are also English Language Learner receive tutoring that helps them to learn English and address other academic issues. We are seeking funding which will go towards our Tonse vulnerable children’s education project a project where we are providing free, inclusive early childhood and primary class room based education to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Our project targets marginalized and disadvantaged children mostly children living with vulnerability within the age range of 3 years to 11 years onwards. We provide classroom-based education, learning and through play and sports activities to help educate children especially in Libuyu, where poverty has prevailed most. By so doing we aim at educating, caring, counselling, empowering and integrating Children living in poverty and with vulnerability for a better future, hence increasing social and economic developments and preventing generational poverty from tipping from one generation to the next in the Libuyu community and Zambia at large. We also provide STEM education at Topping Crue Foundation community school centre to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children who without our support will never have a chance to learn about computers and STEM subjects. We also provide nutritious meals to the children under our Skulu Nutrition Programme as most of the children come from families living on less than a Dollar per day. The Skulu Nutrition Programme plays a crucial role in enhancing education quality and addressing food security for all our school-going children. Apart from that this programme enhances children’s active learning capacity, alleviates short-term hunger, and provides an incentive for children to attend school regularly and punctually while addressing certain micro-nutrient deficiencies in children, providing a reliable food security for the children.
