Project Title: At-Risk Mentoring
Project Description:

Since 2020, Reach One Corp has been a Member of the GA Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force assigned to the Work Groups dedicated to Keeping At-Risk Youth Safe & Youth Awareness and Safety. After the successful development and promotion of Georgia’s Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Technical Assistance Resource Guide (TARG) we are focused on increasing the knowledge and application of child-focused prevention education. We also provide mentoring, clothing, books, food to their families, and toys for the Holidays. We have assisted in creating a youth-friendly action guide for at-risk youth who have attended (or are participating in) a general awareness workshop on human trafficking. This opportunity will include action items that will guide them to inform their peers and others about what they have learned. We also provide resources that youth can contact as a trusted source to report any concerns that they have for themselves or a friend who may be involved in being a victim of human trafficking. The symposiums we help create are presented at local middle and high schools within GA. Our organization has created a “Good Character Program” that teaches Middle and High School students the HT preventative contact we create and presents the content to at-risk youth in schools, foster-care facilities, and organizations. In addition to this lesson, we will work with organizations such as The Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), GA State University, Duke University, Kennesaw State University, the University of GA, and the GBI. These preventative training classes will be delivered both in-person and virtually. In addition to the lesson on Good Character, the modules include Social Media Safety and Culture and Its Impact on Human Trafficking. Through our partnership with the GA Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force, we cover topics such as Identifying Human Trafficker Perpetrators, Boys and Girls Can Be Victimized, Psychological Tactics Used by Human Traffickers, and The Effect of Social Media on Human Trafficking. We engage them in activities where they share what they know about these issues, whom to contact in emergencies, and how to help others in danger. We also provide mental health awareness and are currently receiving substance abuse prevention training to become certified.

Project Title: General Support
Project Description:

PALS provides a safe, trusting environment to foster emotional, social and educational needs of children (ages 5-9) who have been exposed to trauma. This age bracket will be changing in the 2024-2025 school year to include any children between kindergarten and fifth grade who have been determined to benefit from PALS. This shift will allow the goals and structure of PALS to better align with that of the Alamosa School District. PALS engages children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect through adventure, opportunity, counseling, family network activities and one on one therapeutic practices. PALS supports children referred by Adelante, our homeless shelter, Alamosa County DHS, and local school counselors.

PALS is a program that initially began as a child care and after-school program. That beginning has evolved and grown over the years into a therapeutic practice with foundations in evidence-based research around the underlying causes of the socio-emotional challenges that face the children who are enrolled in the program.

We are looking for general support for this year-round program as it looks to increase capacity and also pilot a similar program in nearby Monte Vista in collaboration with the school district.
