Project Title: Pilot Summer Camp
Project Description:
Banana Fana Preschool’s (BFP) Summer Camp Program provides high-quality, relationship-based summer care for children ages 6–12, serving both staff families and the broader community. The 10-week program is designed to support working low-income families by providing access to affordable, high-quality summer programming in a safe, nurturing environment.
The camp engages children in hands-on learning, creative exploration, teamwork, and leadership development within a small program setting organized into two age-appropriate groups, with a maximum enrollment of 12–14 participants. This structure allows for strong adult-child relationships, age-relevant activities, and individualized support that fosters belonging, confidence, and positive peer connections.
Throughout the program, children participate in meaningful real-world experiences in San Francisco, including community outings using public transportation, restaurant visits where they practice communication and independence, collaborative group projects, and friendly team competitions. The program also incorporates weekly STEM activities and sports, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, physical activity, and teamwork.
Grant funding of $10,000 is requested to directly support program quality and student experiences that would otherwise be difficult to sustain while keeping tuition affordable. Specifically, grant funds will support: Educational materials and supplies for hands-on learning, creative projects, and collaborative activities; Sports equipment that promote teamwork, physical activity, and healthy competition; Community-based learning experiences and Outing-related costs that allow children to explore their city using public transportation, including admission fees and program activities in the community; and healthy snacks and drinks. These investments allow the program to deliver a balanced summer experience that integrates STEM learning, social-emotional development, and experiential education. Children will build confidence, empathy, leadership skills, and resilience through hands-on projects, collaborative challenges, sports activities, and real-world experiences throughout San Francisco.
Grant support is essential to ensure that program costs remain accessible for families while maintaining high-quality programming. Funding will enable children to participate in enriching activities, explore their community, and develop critical life skills in a safe, joyful, and developmentally meaningful environment.
