Project Title: Coffee and Conversation, Jewish Girls Mentoring Stipend
Project Description:

We are applying for funding for a project called Coffee and Conversation, a mentoring initiative designed to support the personal, social, and emotional well being of Jewish high school girls through meaningful connections with Jewish women from the broader community. The program will recruit approximately thirty mentors representing a wide range of ages, life stages, and professional backgrounds so that each student can be paired with a mentor whose experiences and personality resonate with her interests and needs. At the start of the school year, mentors will participate in a training session that prepares them to build supportive relationships, communicate effectively with teens, and create a comfortable space for open conversation. Students will review a list of mentors and rank their preferred matches to help ensure that each girl is paired with someone she feels excited to meet with.

Once a month, students will leave school to meet their mentor in a relaxed and informal setting that encourages genuine conversation. These visits may include coffee or lunch at a local restuarant, a walk through a nearby park, visiting a bookstore, exploring cultural spaces such as museums or gardens, or engaging in creative activities such as painting, journaling, or crafts. Mentors may also occasionally treat students to small experiences, such as celebrating milestones such as birthdays or holidays. The goal is not a structured lesson but an authentic relationship in which girls can speak openly about school pressures, friendships, identity, Jewish values, and their hopes for the future.

Grant funding of $8,000 will provide modest stipends that enable mentors to cover the costs of these activities. By creating consistent opportunities for mentorship, encouragement, and inter-generational connection, Coffee and Conversation will help Jewish teenage girls feel supported, seen, and confident while strengthening ties between students and the wider Jewish community.
