Project Title: CFTC’s 2026 Summer Drama Camp Scholarship Program
Project Description:

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company’s primary goal is to bring together community members of all ages and backgrounds to connect and grow as individuals through the transformative power of theatre. The organization’s three summer drama camps (drama camp, spotlight advanced camp, and inclusive adaptive camp designed for kids who are neurodivergent and/or have disabilities) provide local youth with the opportunity to engage in the performing arts in a supportive and specialized environment. Funding will directly support CFTC’s need-based scholarship program for these camps, expanding the number of campers for whom the barrier of tuition can be removed. $4,000 of funding, for example, would allow nine prospective campers to each attend a week-long camp session, or send two children to camp for the full six-week drama camp program. There are many costs of camp (including staff stipends, training, venue rentals, and production materials) that limit funds allocated for this program. Funding would increase the number of prospective campers who may previously have been unable to participate, allowing them to experience the same benefits of camp as their peers, including development as both individuals and young artists. The youth drama camps are a critical component of the organization’s annual schedule and provide children with hands-on theatre experience, as well as the ability to explore their own identities and the world around them. The experience of attending camp often has a lasting, profound impact on campers, and many previous campers have gone on to work with CFTC or other theatre organizations as actors, artists, and volunteers. The scholarship program provides access to those of lower socioeconomic status to these experiences, with long-term impacts.
