Project Title: Empowered Futures Skills & Financial Literacy for Young Women
Project Description:
Ruth Sisters Transitional House will implement the Empowered Futures Life Skills and Financial Literacy Program, a youth development initiative designed to equip young women ages 16–21 with essential skills needed for independent living, financial stability, and personal growth.
Young women in Baton Rouge often face barriers to economic mobility, including limited financial literacy, lack of budgeting skills, and limited exposure to career readiness training. These challenges can contribute to cycles of financial instability and reduced opportunities for long-term success.
The Empowered Futures program will provide structured workshops and mentoring sessions that focus on budgeting, banking basics, credit education, saving strategies, employment readiness, and decision-making skills. Participants will also receive instruction on goal setting, communication, leadership development, and healthy lifestyle habits.
The program will serve approximately 25 young women through a series of interactive workshops, group discussions, and practical activities delivered by trained facilitators and community partners. Participants will complete pre- and post-assessments to measure growth in financial knowledge, confidence, and life skills.
By the end of the program, participants will demonstrate improved financial literacy, increased confidence in managing personal finances, and strengthened life skills necessary for adulthood. The program aims to empower young women to make informed financial decisions, pursue educational or employment opportunities, and build a foundation for long-term independence and stability.
Grant funding will support program facilitation, educational materials, workshop supplies, and participant incentives.
