Project Title: Expanding Access to Arts, Care & Connection
Project Description:
Arts, Care and Connection (ACC) was developed as a statewide partnership by Arts for Learning NW with support from the Oregon Department of Education and a diverse cohort of professional teaching artists and culture keepers from across Oregon. Together, these partners created a comprehensive, free library of K–5 arts-integrated lessons designed to support student well-being, creative learning, and equitable access to arts education.
The next phase of ACC focuses on statewide adoption, educator capacity-building, and long-term sustainability. While the ACC lesson library is free and publicly available, access alone does not guarantee use or impact. Many educators—particularly those who feel “art-education timid” due to limited training, time, or confidence—need additional support to implement arts-integrated learning. This expansion works to ensure that educators across Oregon are aware of ACC, confident using the resources, and supported in translating them into meaningful classroom experiences.
ALNW will use a two-pronged approach to deepen impact. Together, these strategies build educator confidence, increase equitable access to arts learning, and ensure high-quality resources translate into lived classroom experiences.
*Train-the-Trainer Model: ALNW will prepare teaching artists to lead professional learning in their own communities. This strengthens local arts ecosystems while ensuring geographic reach, cultural relevance, and equity. Centering trusted local leaders increases participation and sustained engagement.
*Communications and Outreach: A coordinated statewide campaign will raise awareness and encourage ongoing use. This grassroots strategy leverages ALNW’s network of schools, artists, and community partners.
The expansion of ACC builds community capacity to support wellness through the arts. Resources remain free and adaptable, ensuring access survives the grant period. Ultimately, this expansion fosters a resilient educational ecosystem where creativity is essential, and care and connection are foundational to learning.
