Project Title: Workforce Development, Food Service, Life Skills, and GED Training Program
Project Description:

Life’s Kitchen is a nonprofit social enterprise providing Opportunity Youth (formally at-risk youth) 16-24 years of age with wrap around life and work skills in Boise Idaho. Opportunity Youth are young adults who are not in school and not working.
Failure to complete high school affects a young adult’s ability to become financially independent. Job opportunities are scarce for young adults who have inadequate job skills, lack experience, or do not have a high school diploma. Even if these at-risk young adults can find employment, they often lack the basic life skills that would allow them to navigate the workplace, advance in their career, manage their money, and become financially stable.

Through our Workforce Development, Food Service, Life Skills, and GED Training Program, trainees receive valuable skills and resources they need to become independent, financially stable, and successful.

Funding from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will be used to support training for up to 65 young adults and ongoing support for more than 85 alumni over the next year. The funds will help cover educational, computer, and transportation expenses; GED and ServSafe tutoring and testing; kitchen supplies; trainee meals and support; training support staff; and core program support including staff salaries, utilities, and other associated hard costs of running the organization.

Total Project Budget: $772,885
