Project Title: Hermanowski School Readiness and Literacy Initiative
Project Description:

Fun Time Early Childhood Academy respectfully requests $10,000 to support the Hermanowski School Readiness and Literacy Initiative at its four early childhood learning centers in Naples, FL. This includes the Santa Barbara Center in Golden Gate City, one of Collier County’s most economically disadvantaged and diverse communities.
More than 18% of Collier County children live in poverty, and Golden Gate families face additional barriers, including low income, language differences, and limited access to early learning resources (Collier Community Foundation, 2023; U.S. Census Bureau, 2023). Approximately 65% of residents are Hispanic and 15% are Black. In high-poverty communities like Golden Gate City, where families face low-income and racial, ethnic and language barriers, children are more likely to enter kindergarten behind if they lack high-quality early learning. Black and Latino children are disproportionately affected. State and national assessments show these disparities endure into elementary school, including sizable fourth-grade reading gaps by race/ethnicity, according to the Florida Department of Education’s 2024 NAEP results summary.
This initiative will equip 20 classrooms at all four Fun Time locations, serving up to 300 children, with literacy materials, hands-on learning tools, and teacher training focused on kindergarten readiness. These resources help children develop vocabulary, early reading skills, problem-solving ability, and emotional regulation during the most critical period of brain development.
Fun Time expects strong, measurable outcomes. At least 80% of participating children will meet or exceed age-appropriate social, emotional, and cognitive milestones. At least 90% of Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) students will be assessed as kindergarten-ready, exceeding typical readiness rates in high-poverty communities.
For many Santa Barbara children, these classroom resources represent their first consistent access to books and structured early learning. Support from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will ensure children receive the right tools to gain the foundational skills needed to succeed in school, changing their educational trajectory and opening the door to lifelong opportunity and success.
