Project Title: The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative
Project Description:
The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative is a Movespot program designed to promote mental health, physical wellness, and environmental awareness among youth through immersive learning and community engagement. The initiative provides high school students with opportunities to participate in structured physical activities, mindfulness exercises, and tree planting projects that strengthen personal well-being and foster environmental stewardship.
Movespot’s work has been recognized and supported through a community partnership with Emory University’s Climate and Health Actionable Research and Translation Center (CHART), where Movespot was selected as a 2025-2026 CHART Community Grant partner to expand youth climate and health engagement programming. You can view the community grantees announcement here: CHART CEC announces 2025‑2026 community grantees
Founded by former all region athlete Carl White III, Movespot was created to connect fitness, mental health, and social engagement to deepen community connection. Through this initiative, students build healthy habits, confidence, and teamwork skills while learning the importance of environmental sustainability and resilience.
Each field day includes wellbeing activities, reflective learning, and climate education workshops led by wellness professionals and educators. Movespot is uniquely positioned to serve students in underserved communities, particularly in Georgia, where access to wellness and mental health resources is limited.
With support from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation, Movespot will expand the program to serve over 300 youth in the next year. The requested amount of $10,000 dollars will be used for event coordination, supplies for tree planting and wellness kits, student transportation, and impact reporting.
By combining movement, mindfulness, and environmental learning, The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative empowers young people to develop lifelong resilience, self awareness, and leadership skills while strengthening their connection to community and the environment.
Total Project Budget: $12,500
Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative is supported by several committed and potential funding sources. Currently, Movespot provides in-kind contributions including staff time, volunteer support, and program resources to plan and execute field day events. Additionally, Movespot has secured support through the Emory University CHART Community Grant, which funds curriculum development, environmental education materials, and program evaluation for the 2025‑2026 cycle (link ). Potential sources of funding include the requested support from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to expand the program, purchase supplies, and support student participation. Additional opportunities may come from corporate and community sponsors who can provide materials, funding, or volunteers, as well as other grants focused on youth wellness, mental health, physical activity, and environmental education. Collectively, these resources will ensure the program’s sustainability, growth, and meaningful impact on the students and communities served.
Project Duration: The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative will run for 12 months, beginning in June 2026 and concluding in May 2027. During this period, Movespot will conduct multiple field day events for high school students, implement wellness and environmental education activities, track program outcomes, and produce a final impact report. This timeframe allows for careful planning, implementation across multiple school partners, and evaluation of the program’s effectiveness in promoting youth wellness, community engagement, and environmental awareness.
Geographical Area Served: The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative primarily serves high school students in Georgia, with a focus on underserved communities and schools with limited access to wellness and environmental education resources. The program will initially operate in the Atlanta metropolitan area and surrounding counties, providing students with hands-on opportunities for physical activity, mental wellness, and environmental learning. As Movespot expands the initiative, we plan to extend outreach to additional communities in Georgia, ensuring that more youth can benefit from the program’s combined focus on wellness, leadership, and sustainability.
Age Group To Be Served: The Youth Wellness and Sustainability Initiative will serve students ages 14 to 18, primarily targeting high school youth. This age group is ideal for promoting healthy physical activity, mental wellness, social-emotional learning, and environmental stewardship. The program is designed to equip students with practical tools, leadership skills, and sustainable habits that can positively impact their personal development and community engagement.
