Project Title: Youth Health Equity Initiative
Project Description:
Young people ages 12 to 21 are dealing with health challenges that often stay under the radar until they become serious. In many low income and minority communities, preventive care is not consistent. Families also run into cost barriers, transportation limits, and a lack of culturally responsive support. As a result, early warning signs can be missed, which then shows up as lower energy, reduced focus, and struggles at school. Nationally, nearly 1 in 5 adolescents is affected by obesity, and approximately 1 in 5 teens has prediabetes—both strongly linked to lifelong chronic disease. Youth mental health strain is also escalating, with persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness reported by more than 40% of high school students in recent surveys.
This is urgent because adolescence is a short window when habits and coping skills are still taking shape. When support comes too late, small risks can turn into long term conditions and ongoing stress. That is why early prevention matters. It helps youth stabilize sooner, and it gives families practical tools before problems spiral.
HealthCare Support Association of America is a 501(c)(3) public charity serving underserved communities in Florida and Maryland. We have more than 100 trained health affiliates and licensed volunteers, and we reach over 4,000 subscribers through education and support. With a 10,000 dollar grant, the Youth Health Equity Initiative will serve 100 youth. We will deliver 100 baseline wellness screenings and follow up at 90 and 180 days. We will also host four youth centered workshops that build real life skills.
Each participant will receive screening and risk identification that includes blood pressure, BMI and metabolic risk, nutrition and micronutrient risk, and lifestyle and stress assessment. Then they will receive personalized evidence informed wellness guidance that supports, not replaces, their existing medical care. We will track outcomes so we can document progress in knowledge, engagement, and risk reduction.
HCSAAA is ready to deliver quickly because we already operate with medical oversight and an outcomes focused model, so this funding will translate into measurable impact and help youth reach their full potential.
