Project Title: Feeding The Future
Project Description:

Currently, in Louisiana, there is a pressing need for assistance designed to provide children facing food insecurity
with balanced and nutritious diets. Research from Feeding America underlines this need, with Louisiana ranking
among the top three states for child hunger and child poverty. During summer and holiday breaks, school
cafeterias are closed, leaving many children without their only guaranteed meal of the day, increasing hunger and
financial hardship. For many families, the inability to consistently put food on the table requires them to forego
other essential needs, creating a mental burden that affects overall wellbeing. In Tangipahoa Parish, 1 in every 5
children live in food-insecure households and face uncertainty around meals outside of school cafeteria lunches.
Having a balanced diet supports academic success, as food insecurity is linked to disrupted attention and lower
scores in math and reading. As children are the future of our world, it is imperative that they receive balanced
diets to support healthy physical and social development.
Our program, Feeding the Future, provides children in food-insecure households with consistent access to
support and nourishment. This free assistance operation increases the number of meals cooked each month and
provides children with protein-rich meals. Additionally, nutritious snack bags will be distributed to promote healthy
living. These meals and snack bags will be provided every day that the food bank is open and can be picked up
as needed in our drive-thru line or bike and walk-up line. We project that these services will assist over 2,000
children monthly, and further support families by alleviating financial strain related to groceries. The Feeding the
Future initiative is designed to address the rising rate of child hunger in Louisiana and provide children in the
community with the nutrition needed to learn, play, and grow into the leaders of tomorrow.
