Project Title: Youth Storytelling Program
Project Description:

The Youth Storytelling Program is a tuition-free arts and education initiative serving vulnerable young adults ages 18–21 in the Atlanta metro area, Georgia who have experienced foster care involvement, housing instability, or significant life disruption during adolescence. Many participants enter adulthood without consistent support systems or safe opportunities to process their experiences, which can impact mental health, confidence, and readiness for work or further education.

Through an eight-week structured cohort model, participants engage in guided instruction in screenwriting and storytelling as a tool for narrative reprocessing, emotional regulation, and self-expression. Using trauma-informed practices, the program helps young people transform lived experiences into structured stories while developing transferable skills such as communication, collaboration, creative problem-solving, and project completion.

Participants work alongside professional teaching artists and mentors in film and storytelling and contribute to the development of an original narrative project. The program emphasizes stability and access by meeting after work or school hours and providing nutritious meals during sessions, ensuring food insecurity does not become a barrier to participation.

The project will serve 20–25 young adults over the grant year. Funds requested will support instructional facilitation, program materials, and participant meals, allowing the program to be fully delivered within the year following the grant period.

By centering arts, education, and emotional well-being, the Youth Storytelling Program provides young people with practical tools to process their experiences, strengthen mental wellness, and step into adulthood with increased confidence, agency, and readiness to pursue creative, educational, or workforce pathways.
