Project Title: The Front Porch Youth Health Awareness Program (YHAP)
Project Description:

The Front Porch Youth Health Awareness Program (YHAP), led by Front Porch Community Development Association, Inc., is a targeted initiative designed to reduce youth health disparities and cultivate the next generation of community leaders in South St. Petersburg.

YHAP serves 30 youth ages 11–13 who reside in zip codes 33701, 33705, 33711, and 33712—areas impacted by high rates of crime, unemployment, and low literacy.

The program equips participants with practical tools to strengthen their physical, emotional, and community well-being while preparing them to serve as Youth Health Advocates (YHAs).

Each participant completes nine hours of structured leadership and health education training delivered through a hybrid model. Youth engage in three 1.5-hour in-person sessions and three 1.5-hour virtual sessions, ensuring both accessibility and consistent engagement. Trainings are conducted in two cohorts of 15 youth between January 2027 and June 2027, allowing for personalized instruction, mentorship, and peer collaboration.

YHAP partners with Moffitt Cancer Center through its Youth Ambassadors Reaching Out (YARO) curriculum. This evidence-informed program uses interactive learning to expose youth to careers in health and science, increase awareness of cancer prevention, and empower participants to promote healthy behaviors within their families and neighborhoods. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and leadership exercises, youth gain confidence and practical knowledge to advocate for safer, healthier communities.

Upon successful completion of all training requirements, each youth receives a $200 training incentive, a Certificate of Completion, and a swag bag with additional giveaway items.

YHAP not only builds health knowledge but also invests in youth leadership, economic encouragement, and long-term community transformation.
