Project Title: Project Elevate: Expanding Academic Access
Project Description:

This project will engage students in planting, maintaining, and harvesting an edible crop designed to last for two years. Students will take ownership of the crop, learning hands-on about biology, sustainability, nutrition, and responsibility. The project integrates STEM learning with real-world agricultural skills, giving students the opportunity to connect effort with tangible results as they care for and monitor their crop over multiple seasons.

The $10,000 grant will be used to ensure the project’s success and sustainability. Funds will be allocated as follows: $3,000 for seeds, plants, soil amendments, and compost to establish healthy, long-lasting crops; $2,500 for tools and equipment, including gardening tools, irrigation systems, raised beds, gloves, and safety gear; $2,000 for educational materials, such as lesson plans, growth-tracking journals, STEM activity guides, and signage to document learning outcomes; $1,500 for maintenance and operational costs, including water, mulch, seasonal upkeep, and pest management; and $1,000 for program administration and contract development. Each student participating will enter a formal contract outlining responsibilities, learning objectives, and accountability measures, which will foster engagement and model real-world responsibility in a supportive environment.

This project will benefit students, families, and the broader community. Students will gain practical skills in agriculture and environmental stewardship while developing teamwork, critical thinking, and a sense of pride in their accomplishments. The edible crop will provide fresh produce for the school or local community, reinforcing the connection between effort, sustainability, and tangible results. By supporting this initiative, the grant will expand learning opportunities, strengthen student confidence, and promote long-term engagement in STEM, nutrition, and sustainable practices.
