Project Title: Instrument Access and Music Program
Project Description:

Next Up Music & Culture is seeking $10,000 in general operating support to sustain its music instrument access program serving talented middle and high school students in Baltimore City Schools. Founded in 2021, our organization removes financial barriers that prevent students from fully pursuing their passion for music and academic success.

During the 2024-2025 school year, Next Up Music & Culture invested $9,186 in professional musical instruments alone to committed talented students so they could continue developing their skills at home and school. This didn’t include stipends for professional teachers or other operational cost.

In addition to instrument access, students receive mentorship from professional musicians local and national known, that teach interactive master music classes. Students also attend live musical performances in the community that broaden their exposure and confidence.

Research from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) www.namm.org shows that students engaged in music education show higher graduation and attendance rates, improved academic performance, and stronger critical thinking skills.

We are a volunteer led organization with no paid staff. Next Up Music & Culture directs the majority of funding directly to students. This grant would help us sustain instrument purchases, instructional stipends, enrichment experiences, and operational expenses to maintain programming.
