Project Title: Promising Men’s Mentoring Program
Project Description:

The Promising Men’s Mentoring Program helps young men in grades 5-8 increase their educational skills, social skills, and leadership skills. We work with Youngstown Community School and Youngstown City School District to provide weekly mentoring sessions, social outings, and visits to area businesses. We believe children will function based on what they have been shown, taught, and have experienced.

The Kool Boiz Foundation’s Promising Men Mentoring Program is designed to change the mindsets and behaviors of the young men we serve and help them achieve success in all aspects of their lives. Research shows that youth who have high levels of developmental assistance achieve more and are involved in fewer high-risk behaviors. According to the National Cares Mentoring Movement, when young people are mentored well, 98% stay in school; 98% do not become teen parents; 85% do not use drugs; and 98% avoid gang participation. The goal of our mentoring program is to provide young men with sound advice, strong support, and new societal experiences that will create a vision of “What’s Possible” for their lives.

We believe there is hope for every child having a difficult time functioning in school and in society. With this belief, we strive to do the following to make the difference:
• Provide them with support.
• Expose them to a different way.
• Establish expectations.
• Hold them accountable.
• Provide encouragement.
• Reward them when they do well.
